Strange stuff since Anti Virus update

Unread postby tblotsky » July 14th, 2007, 4:00 pm

I recently update Zone Alarm Security Suite and now in Firefox 2.0.0.4 my Yahoo email attachments (jpegs) are being blocked in addition to You Tube Videos and attempts at any online virus scans. "This Object Has Been Blocked" pops up. I thought it may be a firewall issue so I tried disabling it to no avail. General system lag is also pretty apparent. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi tblotsky

Run this tool first.

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Then;
Download F-Secure Blacklight (fsbl.exe) to the desktop from here.

Open it and click Accept Agreement.
Click Scan.
After the scan is complete, click Next, then Exit.
It will create a log on the desktop named fsbl-xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx will be the date and time of the scan)
Save the log to your desktop. Now paste the log in your next reply.

Thanks Scotty! I ran the Norton removal tool but elected not to re-install as I am now using Zone Alarm.

I ran the FSB but it found no items and did not create a log.

Hi Tblotsky

Delete the older versions of Java and download the newest.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.
 1. Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
 2. Click Start > Control Panel.
 3. Click Add/Remove Programs.
 4. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
 5. Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
 6. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
 7. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.

Then download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (4th one down the list), which is JRE6u2, and click Yes at the page warning, then accept the Licence Agreement before downloading the Offline file.

Apart from your outdated Java, there is no sign of malware. We must assume it's a Zone Alarm issue, which I am not knowledgeable of.

Try here first

And if that doesnt help, you will surely get help here.

Im sorry I can be no further help.

Thanks Scotty. I will try the forums.

PS. Any recommendations on a registry repair app? I found some errors and would like to fix them.

Hi Tblotsky

CCleaner is generally recommended. HERE You will see "Download latest version" on the right of the screen.

During install, dont forget to uncheck the box for the Yahoo Toolbar. You wont want that.

Registry cleaning is done through "Issues". Always select Yes to back up before fixing.

Good luck with the ZA issue.
