Something shutting down all virus removal software/websites

So here's my problem.. I have a virus (or Trojan, or something) and I have absolutely no idea what it is. My first clue that something was wrong was when the shortcuts on my desktop stopped working. I would double-click on them and nothing would happen. Then a box popped up that said "Personal Security Center" (looking very similar to the Windows Security Center) asking me to download Ultimate Defender and Ultimate Fixer. I immediately knew something was wrong, so I tried to start downloading spyware detection software, but every time I try to go to any kind of website that has to do with virus removal, Internet Explorer just shuts down. Any other website will work fine, but if I try to google "Trojan" or "virus removal" or go to any websites for virus removal software, it just closes. I downloaded some install files from a different computer and moved them over to my laptop and installed them, but as soon as I would open the programs, they either freeze up or just shut down immediately.

My boyfriend was able to get McAfee to run by stopping Explorer, and it found a whole lot of things and removed them, but the symptoms of the virus have not gone away. The first time we opened up Explorer, McAfee killed a bunch of things, but the problems are still there. We still can't use any virus removal software or go to any virus removal websites on the laptop. McAfee is now not detecting anything, but I know the problems aren't totally gone. My computer is running veeeerrrrrrry slowly, even with just one or two programs open, which is odd because I have 4 GB of RAM.

Has anyone heard of this before, or know how to stop it?

It took about two days to get HijackThis to run because it kept shutting down, by finally we found a way by stopping Explorer in safe mode and then running it. Here's the log:
