Register to Remove

Unread postby Cody4058 » July 4th, 2007, 8:21 am

I have used Trend Micro Pc-Cillin and trojan hunter to remove every trojan horse virus and every thing else out of the normal, i used tune up utilities 2006 to repair all registry entries, and i manually removed what i know was the inital cause of this breakout and all processes associated, yet the virus continues to spread and i have this very annoying fake warning message at the bottom right that i cannot get rid of even after removing its task bar graphic it still comes up on startup. If this becomes too much of a nuisance i will format and save what i need, but i would really love to know how to remove this without a format for future reference.

Hi Cody4058,

Step 1

Please download SmitFraudFix.exe by S!Ri and save it to the desktop.

  1. Double click on SmitfraudFix.exe.
  2. Press 1 then hit the Enter key.
  3. It will create a report named rapport.txt, usually at C drive.

Step 2

  1. Open HijackThis.
  2. Select Open the Misc Tools section.
  3. Look under System tools.
  4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
  5. Click on the Save list... button.
  6. It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
  7. Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. Smitfraudfix report (C:\rapport.txt)
  2. Uninstall list
  3. A new HijackThis log

Hi Cody4058,

Sorry for the delay.

You are using P2P programs (Limewire Pro). While this program is spyware free, please refrain from using them while cleaning your computer to prevent getting more infections. Our recommendation is to stay off them as they are one of the sources of infections. For more information, please visit Malware Removal List of Clean and Infected P2P Programs and Spyware Info List of Clean and Infected P2P Programs.

Step 1

  1. Please go to Start > Control Panel. Double click on Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Locate Windows Safety Alert from the list of programs and click on Change/Remove to uninstall it.
  3. Close Add/Remove Programs and Control Panel.

Step 2

Please print out or save this set of instructions as you will be working in Safe Mode without internet connections.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, press the F8 key continually.
  3. A boot menu will be shown to you. Use the up down arrow keys to select Safe Mode and press Enter.
  4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  5. Windows will now load, log in to your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode, double click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option 2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note to other users: Running Smitfraudfix Option 2 on a clean machine will remove your desktop background.

Step 3

Please disable Trojan Hunter temporarily as it may interfere with the fixes.

To do so, please follow the following:

  1. Go to TrojanHunter Guard in the lower right corner of your screen. It is a light blue icon with a magnifying glass that can be difficult to see but the handle is red.
  2. Right click it and select Settings. Uncheck (untick) Load at startup and Enabled.

Please open HijackThis and select Do a system scan only.

Put a check (tick) next to these lines (if present):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {184746EC-9E9D-4C7D-B9E7-9039EBD801A9} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {29C5A3B6-9A8D-4FA0-B5AD-3E20F4AA5C00} - (no file)

Click Fix checked.

Do you know anything about this program?

O4 - Startup: Reboot.exe

If you know, you can leave it alone; otherwise, fix that with HijackThis as well.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. A new HijackThis log
  2. Smitfraudfix report (C:\rapport.txt)
