Welcome to the Forums.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!
Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

-- End of Deckard's System Scanner: finished at 2007-06-09 at 22:57:25 ---------

I was having problems with occasional to frequent pop-ups of adverts for free games consoles/ebay auction items etc

As well as pop-ups of these, I was having problems with a pop-up which was telling me to download a supposed virus protection program.

These pop-ups came up about once every 2 minutes for 5 minutes of so at times, with times when they appeared once an hour.

Since posting my first HijackThis log, my Norton Internet Security 2007 program found a type of 'Trojan' and said it had removed it and my system was secure, however this pop-up info came up just as frequently as the advertising pop-ups, which led me to believe that this threat was continuing to try and get onto my system.

I downloaded Spyware Doctor (or vice versa) and did a scan which showed there was up to 64 infections ranging from advertising and tracking cookies to types of trojans and bad sites.

I deleted the found infections, only to find they reappeared.

I then downloaded SUPERanti-spyware and carried out a scan, which found about 20 infections, deleted and since I have had neither a Norton pop-up nor any pop-ups at all (No pop-ups infact since Norton found and protected from the Trojan)

I seem to also remember a Norton pop-up warning about a 'Bloodhound' of some sort, which also said I was protected, and I have no idea what this was apart from it seemed to only warn me when I plugged in a downloaded photos from my camera.

Thanks,

Tommy

Submit a file to Jotti
Please go here : http://virusscan.jotti.org/
On top of the page there is a field to add the filepath, copy and paste these filepaths: 1 at a time.

C:\Windows\system32\kimkomjolq.dat

Then hit Submit
The scan will take a while before the result comes up so please be patient.
Then copy the result and post it here in this thread.

If Jotti's service load is too high, you can use the following scanner instead:

Seems as if you have the pop ups under control now. Is that correct?

Please post the results from Jottis/virus total.

What ever the issue was you have taken care of it your self.
Heres what I suggest you do now that you have it cleaned out.

Great news ! Image

Your log now appears to be clean.

Lets do a few things to tidy up.
Please do these in the order I suggest!

___________________________________
Download and install CCleaner from here.
If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for Cookies is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.

Now open the program and click on Run Cleaner
( Do not use the Issues block to clean anything with this program. It is for experts only and it is risky).

You may opt out of cleaning cookies. If you clean them alls you will have to do is retype names and passwords for places you visit on the net 1 time.
If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for Cookies is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla
I clean all my cookies out from time to time. It's not that big a deal if you remember passwords.

You can download the MVPS Hosts File and see a HOSTS file tutorial here :

Thanks alot! :D

I've done all you've said, however in my Documents folder i have a folder called 'App Data' which has all my program data in, but it didn't used to be there.

Also, I'm running Windows Vista and so I don't have the same 'My Computer' stuff as you said above, so I was unsure how to do the system restore stuff.

Oops... completely forgot we were working a vista machine.
    Create a system restore point

    • right click computer
    • select properties
    • select system protection
    • remove the check mark from the hard drive labled "C"

Windows will pop up and ask. Click turn off system restore.
    • Click apply.

      __________________________
Now open system protection again and replace the check mark.

      once again click apply.
    • select create
    • Give it a name... Type something Something like malware free.
(windows will give it a date and time on it's own)
    • click create

Let windows finish and close it all.
