Hi

Just checking I was at eclipse computers the other day and I was chatting to the sales guy who informed me about remote assistance and to check if mine is turned off. Because when you load XP it automatically turns it on.

So as a safety measure id like to check that its turned off.

Reason being my mrs`s pc`s turn on by itself, my mrs brought a new pc tower only two days ago to see if she could rectify the problem on her pc but its still the same. It doesnt do it everytime every now and again. The time gap cant really be monitored

Her Pc switched on twice the other night at 11.30 pm and 11.40 pm and again at 2.30am in the morning. Scared the living c**p out of us.

I have power surge protectors on both pc`s. But the laptop downstairs doesnt power up on its own. I have AVG anti virus installed, also I have installed SPYBOT, ADAWARE & also SUPER ANTISPY to see if there are any reason behind all of this.

Ive been advised but people off pc advisor to just switch the PC off at the mains but isnt this over riding the problem??

Any help would be much appreciated

Many Thanks

Hi 1887!

You can check here for instructions see whether or not you've got remote assitance enabled.

I guess it might be your LAN card which is turning computer's power on. Do you know how to enter BIOS to see if you've got 'Wake on LAN' feature enabled?
