My Hijack Log

Unread postby Ridley » February 12th, 2007, 1:54 pm

Hi there. First post so please be gentle ;)

My IE(7) has starting behaving strangely. If I search through Google and then click on the link I want, it redirects me to other web search pages or shopping search engines and not to the link I requested.

It does eventually go to the page I want after several retries. I have done the adaware, spyware, trojan and anti-virus searches. AVG Anti Spyware found a worm called FUJACK. That was quarantined. I restarted my computer but get the same problem.

Here is my hijack log file. Please help.

Hi Ridley and welcome to the Malware Removal forums.
My name is Vino Rosso - if it helps, you can call me Vino for short. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems.

HijackThis logs can take a little time to research so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Finally, please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
While I'm working looking through your log, can you please do the following:

1 - FixWareout
Please download to your Desktop FixWareout from either >here< or >here<

Double-click Fixwareout.exe to run the program - click Next then Install
Make sure Run fixit is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin - follow the prompts.
Reboot your computer when asked.
Your system may take longer than usual to load - this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Can you please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt with your next reply.

2 - Temporarily Disable Protection Programs
Certain protection tools may get in the way of the fixes we need to make. Here are a few that need to be disabled during a fix:

a - Disable AVG Anti-Spyware Guard
Please disable AVG Anti-Spyware temporarily, as it may hinder the removal of some HijackThis entries.
Open AVG-AS by double-clicking the icon in the system tray.
In the 'Your security status' section, toggle the Guard realtime protection 'off' by clicking 'active' which will then change the protection status to 'inactive'.
When you reboot, AVG-AS will prompt you as to whether you would like to "Restart the guard?".
Reply 'No' and set it to 'inactive' for the duration of your cleanup. Once your computer has been cleansed of malware you can re-enable the guard.

b - Disable Trojan Hunter Guard
Go to TrojanHunter Guard in the lower right corner of your screen. It is a light blue magnifying glass icon with a red handle. Right click it and select Settings. Uncheck Load at startup and Enabled.

3 - Run HJT Scan
Run HijackThis and click Do a system scan only
Tick the following entries, if present:
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{41E04C41-F92D-4BE7-948C-2013B027CCB7}: NameServer = 85.255.115.118,85.255.112.199
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{87F1B62A-0113-451D-A082-AD784B11FD48}: NameServer = 85.255.115.118,85.255.112.199
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.115.118 85.255.112.199
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{41E04C41-F92D-4BE7-948C-2013B027CCB7}: NameServer = 85.255.115.118,85.255.112.199
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.115.118 85.255.112.199

Close all windows except HijackThis
Select Fix Checked in HijackThis.

4 - Network Settings
Now click on Start > Run and type cmd and click on OK
Type ipconfig /flushdns (note the space after ipconfig and before the /)
Press Enter, type exit at the command prompt, then press Enter
The command window will close.

(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel (Start > Control Panel), if you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections.
Right-click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on Properties.
Click the Networking tab.
Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot your PC if asked.

5 - Check on status
After you have completed the above, please reboot and provide:
  • the C:\fixWareout\report.txt
  • a new HijackThis log
Remember, if you can, it's worth printing these instructions out before you start.

Note: Please ensure Word Wrap is UNticked (Format > Word Wrap) in Notepad before posting your logs.

Good Luck
Vino
