Hi! :hello2: and welcome to the Malware Removal forums.
My name is John Brouwer - if it helps, you can call me John for short. I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need
your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.
I am currently looking over your log. As I am a trainee, everything that I post to you must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a potential fix.

Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Finally, please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

    1. Start HijackThis
    2. Click on the Config button
    3. Click on the Misc Tools button
    4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

    Image

    5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in a reply.

Greets, John.

Hi,

Your log looks clean but it might be that some malware is hiding from us.

Please copy this fix to notepad/word, or print it, because you won't always have internet access!

Step 1: Make the Uninstall log
We're going to rename HijackTHis in the next step and that could disable the uninstall log option. I've posted instructions to make an uninstall log in my welcome speech so please make the log before moving on to the next step!

Step 2: Rename HijackThis
Please rename hijackthis.exe to goodscanner.exe en make a fresh HijackThis log. Save it in the HijackThis folder.

Step 3: Run Kaspersky Online Scan
Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky,
Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
      Scan Archives Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
      Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.

Step 4: Post logs
* Uninstall log (if you haven't posted it yet)
* Fresh HJT log
* Kaspersky log
* Also, please tell me if AVG7, the Anti-Virus program you're using, has a firewall option and if it's enabled

Greets, John.

I ran Kaspersky then had to remove it because it just slowed the computer down to a crawl. I now have Avast Anti-Virus running, and several different spyware finders as well as BHO Demon.

I have been able to temporarily remove the hijack, but it always comes back. It seems that Yahoo Search rewrites the bad program most often, but it still occured with other default search engines.

Thanks for your help, John

Hi,

First your log was clean but now it looks like you're infected. Lets try to see what it is.

Please go to Start , under Accessories click Command Prompt and enter the following line:
reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows" >> C:\look.txt

Please post the contents of C:\look.txt

Greets, John.
