We have just a few things to clean up.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove log items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis. If the opening screen shows, choose None of the above, just start the program.
Click Scan. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... .yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... earch.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... .yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... .yahoo.com
O16 - DPF: Yahoo! Pool 2 - http://download.games.yahoo.com/games/c ... potd_x.cab

Make sure all other windows except HJT are closed, and Click Fix Checked.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Post a New HJT Log
Reboot your computer.
Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File. When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply.
Let's make sure we got them. Then I will have a suggestion or two about future protection.

losingmylycosa,
Log looks clean. Good job. Just a few suggestions here:
-----------------------------------------------------------
A general article on anti-malware products with links to programs can be found here: Computer Safety on line - Anti-Malware

Disable and Enable Windows ME System Restore .
Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove malware files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files. You will also lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.
Instructions are here : Managing Windows Millennium System Restore
This disable/re-enable sequence is not to be done regularly, but only once , directly after removal of malware.

Secure your Internet Explorer for any occasions where you are not using Firefox.
- From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
- Click once on the Security tab
- Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
- Click once on the Custom Level button.
- Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
- Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
- Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
- Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
- Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to - Prompt
- Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to - Prompt
- When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
- If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
- Press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites to your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from accidentally running or downloading known malicious programs. Available from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Good luck,

Thanks for your help. I've installed spywareblaster, ran it. I've applied those internet explorer settings.

I cannot enable system restore. It's currently disabled, when I try to enable it, it says it cannot be restored, please free up 200mb of space. I have 4.8gb free, so something's wrong.

This computer is a Gateway so it has Goback support, which is like system restore. If you have any suggestions about the system restore problem, I'm listening.

Regards,
Steve

If system restore is not enabled, then there is no risk that malware is available for a restore.
I don't know enough about Windows ME to suggest what may be wrong with that function.
If you can make a new backup set with Goback, and delete all older backups, I would do that. This would avoid the risk of having contaminated backups.

For advice on general system issues with ME, you might want to ask at http://www.PCPitStop.com. They are experienced at this type of problem.
