Cannot remove unwanted Home Page-avcenter/fix_homepage

Unread postby Willprospector » January 30th, 2007, 5:59 pm

 This is what my Home Page is in Avant Browser:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/av ... x_homepage
I am using the latest Windows Explorer updates and SP2. I cannot remove it. I have used Norton Anti-Virus in regular and Safe Mode with System Restore turned off and it does not recognize this as a problem. I have used SpyWareKiller, SpySweeper
with the latest updates and SpyBot Search & Destroy { which picked up DSO Exploit that neither of the aforementioned programs found}. DSO Exploit was removed. I have gone into the Registry in Safe Mode with System Restore turned off and deleted the Home Page file where I found it as outlined by Norton Anti-Virus. I have forgotten the Registry key at the moment. It still returned.
I use Registry Medic to clear registry problems evry 4-5 days. I found
63 on the last check. I did a free scan with RegistrySmart and that picked up another 47 problems and deleted evrything except 8 and now I have to pay them if I want those deleted. Registry Smart scan said there were 7 systems problems. I have joined as an affiliate and will buy the program from myself
seeing as how I have been a ClickBank affiliate for a long time.
I have used CyberScrub to wipe out a lot of excess crud from my system. I clear temporary internet browser files when the browser closes as well as cookies and recent pages. I have done everything Norton Anti-virus suggests for JS.Exception.Exploit and they do not have anything extra to remove IRC.Becky.A. I thought a Java script might be running in my temporary files not in the Internet Explorer but somewhere else on my machine and that is why I used CyberScrub.
Any suggestions? I will be putting a link and advertisement to this Forum on my business website so that my customers can get the support they need that all the big corporations (Symantec, WebRoot) are unwilling
to provide. They probably wouldn't do as good a job anyway! :)
Thank you ever so much,
Will S.

Could you please remove any links to business related sites - we DO consider that to be spam.

We have done a search for your username over google - which is something you should do from time to time - you may be supprised to see how much you will find out about a person that way.

You are welcome to advice from this forum - but not to free advertisements.

So why did you do a Username search on Google @ me?

So why did you do a Username search on Google @ me?
I don't advertise pre-launch sites which are rip offs. I
have quite a few auto surfs sites that have ripped me off.
There was nothing in any of the posts I read that said you could
not put your website down as your signature, especially given the
fact that the profile includes a URL for your website. I erased
the signature. Why have it if you that if you cannot put a website there?
I suspect non-commercial websites are okay?
Some forums let you post commercial sites after so many posts.
I suspect that is not the rule here.
Like I said I will be developing a Security Resource Directory on my site and this forum will be in it. Is that OKay?
Thank you for whatever help anyone can offer,
Will S.

We always do a google search on all new members where any website link is given at registration within thier profile or as part of a signature - it is our standard practice.

You were not 'singled' out in any way. The results of that google search do influence us, in our decision to allow or disallow any links from this forum.

I have removed the website link from your profile - please do not put it back.

You have TeaTimer installed. While this is a great program, we need to temporarily disable (not uninstall) the program because it might stop our fix.

1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5) Restart your computer.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Go here to run an online scannner from Kaspersky.
  • Click on "Kaspersky Online Scanner"
  • A new smaller window will pop up. Press on "Accept". After reading the contents.
  • Now Kaspersky will update the anti-virus database. Let it run.
  • Click on "Next">"Scan Settings", and make sure the database is set to "extended". And check both the scan options. Then click OK.
  • Then click on "My Computer", and the scan will start.
  • Once finished, save the log as "KAV.txt" to the desktop.

Post back with a new HijackThis log and the Kaspersky log
