http://www.malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtop ... 4973#14973

The Best Popup Killer is made by an anti-spyware company of dubious repute, on the known rogue anti-spyware list.. I would suggest removal.
There are too many safe, effective popup protections available, like the Google Toolbar.

The use of Incredimail is open to malicious attacks, and in the User Agreement, claims permanent ownership of anything sent thru their mail service
See full article here: http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2002/2002-10-10.htm#6
Therefore my suggestions. You have to decide. If you decide not to remove an application, don't check it or delete it from the recommendations below.
-----------------------------------------------------------
From Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs:
One at a time, highlight each of these that are listed and Remove, if found.

Best Popup Killer
History Kill
Incredimail

-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove log items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis. If the opening screen shows, choose None of the above, just start the program.
Click Scan. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:
(Some of these lines may be missing due to other actions)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [HistoryKill] C:\Program Files\HistoryKill\histkill.exe /startup
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BestPopUpKiller] C:\Program Files\HistoryKill\hkPopupKiller-good.exe /startup
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Add animation to IncrediMail Style Box - C:\PROGRA~1\INCRED~1\bin\resources\WebMenuImg.htm

Make sure all other windows except HJT are closed, and Click Fix Checked.
-----------------------------------------------------------
File and Folder Deletion.
In Windows Explorer, navigate to these folders. Find and Delete these folders, if present:

C:\Program Files\Incredimail\
C:\Program Files\HistoryKill\

Note any folder you cannot delete.
You may have to delete all the underlying files and folders before a target folder can be deleted.
If there were any files you found but could not delete, then please follow these additional instructions:
Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.
Run it, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste the full path of each file to delete, one at a time, into the box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say "No" each time until the last one has been pasted in, whereupon you should answer "Yes".
Let the system reboot.

After you have made your decisions about what to keep, please post another HJT log.

Klof ron,

Your log looks clean.
Just a few things to enhance the safety of your computer :
-----------------------------------------------------------
A general article on anti-malware products with links to programs can be found here: Computer Safety on line - Anti-Malware

Secure your Internet Explorer
- From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
- Click once on the Security tab
- Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
- Click once on the Custom Level button.
- Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
- Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
- Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
- Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
- Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to - Prompt
- Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to - Prompt
- When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
- If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
- Press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software in conjunction with Spybot. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware

Consider Downloading and Installing a HOSTS File
Available from here : http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
This will block accidental ACCESS to thousands of malicious websites. If you use a proxy server or if you are on AOL, be sure to read the special instructions.

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites to your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from accidentally running or downloading known malicious programs. Available from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
Be sure to check Enable All Protections after you check for updates.

Install SpywareGuard. It runs in the background, like your Anti-Virus program, to stop Browser Helper Objects (BHO's) from installing. Available from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html

Install CCleaner - Download and Install CCleaner. Summary page is http://www.ccleaner.com/. Download page is http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner.html. When you start CCleaner, choose the Windows tab. Check everything EXCEPT be sure the Advanced part of the menu is all Unchecked. Choose Analyze. Let the Analyze portion finish. Then choose Run Cleaner. Under options, you can set it to clean every time you boot - a good idea.

Install WinPatrol - Download and Install WinPatrol, and view Instructions here: http://www.winpatrol.com/winpatrol.html
- WinPatrol is an active program that drops a "Scotty Dog" icon into the system tray (right click to check/change status), allows you to monitor/edit startups, services, Browser helpers, and prompts for permission if any program tries to change your system. It also provides selective cookie management.

Update all these programs regularly - Regular updates are needed to keep pace with the new malicious programs as they are released.
