Hi

I have just run a scan with AVG 7.5 and it has picked up a trojan.

Its located in c:\Windows\system\activescan\sporder.dll

AVG hasn't deleted or healed it.

What can I do?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Southpaw.

Please download HijackThis from here. Double-click on 'hijackthis_sfx.exe'. This will create a folder, 'C:\HijackThis', extract the program into that folder and then open the folder for you. It will also create a shortcut on your desktop.

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'. Copy the log and post it here as a reply in this thread. Do NOT tick anything or click on Fix.

Hi Southpaw.

Your HijackThis log is clean. The file c:\Windows\system\activescan\sporder.dll is valid. It is used by Panda ActiveScan online scan. The file sporder.dll, in another location, is sometimes used by malware. AVG is giving a false-positive. I hope that this puts your mind at rest.

Update Java Runtime:

You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 5.0 Update 9.
  • Go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
  • Click on the link named Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9
  • Click on Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save the downloaded file to your hard disk
  • Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
  • Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 2 Runtime Environment, JRE or JSE)
  • Reboot your computer
  • Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Reboot your computer
Please reply to let me know that you have read this post, so that we can close this thread. However, don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions about this.
