IE freezes on one site

Unread postby abf83 » June 12th, 2005, 10:16 pm

My IE keeps freezing on one and ONLY this site when I try to use a different program or another window of IE while on this site. I know its not the site, because it works fine on my other computer.

For example, if I am on it and open a new window that is that site, both freeze.
If I am on the site and open AIM (or any other program), just the site freezes.
If I open a new window and go to a DIFFERENT site, just the other one freezes.

The site is the Car and Driver Forums (http://www.caranddriver.com/idealbb).

I have done everything you all have said before posting a log. Spybot and Adaware found nothing.
Trojan Hunter and online virus scans have found nothing.

Also, I am using Win XP SP2, latest version of everything.. no updates available on windows update.

Can someone please look at my hijackthis log?
Thank You!

Hello and Welcome abf83,

Basically your hijackthis log is fine. I did notice that you use AOL.

Please go the site which is giving you trouble. Then down in the right-hand corner of your screen right click the AOL icon. Highlight System Information and click. A pop-up window should open up on your screen. Select System Info on the left column and click. If you get the Caution pop-up in the middle just click Okay. What does the Memory have beside it and the % of load?

I don't use AOL. We have Charter cable. AOL did come installed on the new computer though.. we just got it about a month ago. And I did not have this problem on the old computer, or my other computer..

But Ill go to the site, open 2 windows, use both and once it freezes ill check the task mananger and see how much % its using.

Edit:
It immediately happened, this window stayed fine, the C&D forums window froze...
IE was using 20,000K and 38,000K.. didnt say which site was which..
CPU usaged stayed at about 2%

Hello abf83,

There are a couple of things that should be fixed on your hijackthis log.

Disable Anti-Spyware only during fixes
Before we start please go to TrojanHunter Guard in the lower right corner of your screen. It is a light blue icon with a magnifying glass that can be difficult to see but the handle is red. Right click it and select settings. Uncheck "Load at startup" and "Enabled". It could interfere with the fixes.

Run Hijackthis
Open Hijackthis and tick this entries if present.

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked

Reboot

Ccleaner
Download Ccleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp
Install and run.

What I need
Run Hijackthis and post new hijackthis log.

MSINFO32(letter O before 32)
Please go the site which is giving you trouble. Then go to Windows Start=> Run type and enter MSINFO32, Click the “+â€

I opened the site with this site opened, and it froze... its frozen right now... this one works.. :(
Total physical memory = 1024 MB
Available physical memory = 612.64 MB

Again, this only started with this new computer about a month ago when we got it. I could use 2 or more IE windows on our old computer at the site, and I could use that site plus AIM or any other application without it freezing... :x

This is the error...

szAppName : IEXPLORE.EXE szAppVer : 6.0.2900.2180 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000
The following files were included in the error report... this is after I ran CCleaner.......
C:\DOCUME~1\Alan\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERb33f.dir00\IEXPLORE.EXE.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Alan\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERb33f.dir00\appcompat.txt

Hello abf83,

Please do this again.
Ccleaner
Run Ccleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp
Make sure that Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, System are checked.
Click Run Cleaner.

Show Hidden and System files:
Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

Double-check Deletion
These should have been deleted by Ccleaner but let’s double check.

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\Alan\Local Settings\Temp
Delete all the files within the Temp folder.

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\Alan\Cookies
Delete all the files within the Cookies folder.

Then try to access the troublesome website again and post the error log and let’s see if the error log changed.

I did that earlier, even completely deleted the Temp folder and let it regenerate... got the same error. The error log never changes. I get the accomp.txt thing and the other thing.
I am also the appcompat.txt error when I close AIM! EVERY TIME that I close it. I only have the options to Debug and Close on it... debug never works.

I think I know what the problem might be... something with the video card. Right now, the video card has basically gone out, and will be fixed tomorrow when Dell sends us the CDs that should have come with the computer...
If that doesnt fix it (i think it wont... I know the card is going out) then they will replace it.

But I say vid card becuase right after I updated the drivers on it about 2 weeks ago, for about a day I could use the site with 2 or more windows open. Then it would go back to freezing the next day..

Right now I am on our old computer, and the site (http://www.caranddriver.com/idealbb) works with 2 or more sites open, or the site and another program open with no freezing.

Hello abf83,

That appcompat.txt error is for general reporting purposes of errors so that does not help much as you probably already know.

Just a few things to check if you have not already done so.
Go to the Control Panel => System=> Hardware=>Device Manager and click the “+â€
