HELP!!

Unread postby blueranger » October 21st, 2006, 11:44 am

Hi Guys

The guys at PCAdvisor have suggested I contact you. I was having problems with spyware on my pc. My home page was constantly changing to a chinese site and an asian toolbar is constantly installing itself plus a program called chinese navigation which I know nothing about.

I am unable to remove "Chinese Navigation" from my program list even though I am logged on as administrator. I think I have resolved the problem with my home page changing via new spyware software. Ive also installed AVG antivirus, AVG anti spyware and Zonealarm Firewall.

Finally I have removed the asian toolbar via the spyware software several times but it reinstalls itself. Ive attached log below, please help!!

Hello blueranger,

That Chinese navigation stuff is a nasty bugger indeed since it has many hidden services. :(

1. Download this file - combofix.exe to your desktop. It has to be on your desktop since we need to launch the tool with a switch.
2. Click start > run
3. Copy & Paste this line and hit enter:

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /wow

4. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Run HijackThis, click on Open the Misc Tools Section, put a checkmark in List also minor sections and List empty sections. Click on Generate StartupList log, anwser Yes and copy/paste the content in your reply.
Click Back and Click on Scan. When the scan is finished, click Save Log and paste the content in your reply.

Please post the combofix log and a fresh hijackthis log with the startuplist.

You might need several replies to post the requested logs, make sure that they don't get cut off.

HELP!!

Unread postby blueranger » October 21st, 2006, 2:43 pm

Hi

I ran the program as you suggested but I didnt get a chance to paste the info into a response as my system auto rebooted. Then it froze on my desk top and no icons appeared.

What I would say is that my homepage now seems to be a MSN page and the chinese navigation and asian toolbar have disappeared.

Can you confirm it is ok that procedure hasnt been followed as you stated. Also what can I do to confirm pc is now clear?

Without a log I can't confirm that your pc is clean. If combofix did stall / freeze ... a partial log should have been created. Please check your
C:\ folder
or
c:\subs folder
for a combofix.txt or combofix.log

Open in notepad and post it content as a reply.

Please post the hijackthis startuplist & log as requested.

Thanks. :)

Unread postby blueranger » October 22nd, 2006, 4:04 am

Hi Kim

See below my updated hijack this log.

Can I thank you for all your help whilst I am waiting for and hoping for the all clear, my log is below.

Can I also ask you whether I have sufficient protection on my machine. I now have AVG anti spyware and AVG Anti Virus and Zonealarm firewall on my machine hopefully to prevent these problems in future. Is this sufficient?

Hello blueranger,

blueranger wrote:Can I also ask you whether I have sufficient protection on my machine. I now have AVG anti spyware and AVG Anti Virus and Zonealarm firewall on my machine hopefully to prevent these problems in future. Is this sufficient?
Let's first fix your PC and we'll talk about that later on. :)

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Please download LSP-Fix from the following link and save it to a location you can find later if necessary. If you use the zipped version unzip it to a convenient location.

Download Killbox by Option^Explicit to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip
Unzip it to your desktop or a convenient folder.

Click start > run > type cmd.exe and hit enter.

A CMD window will open, type each of the following commands followed by enter.

sc stop hidport (followed by enter)
sc delete hidport (followed by enter)

Close the CMD window.
______________________________

Run the LSP-Fix program I had you download earlier. Close all Internet Explorer windows.
  • Close all windows except LSPfix.
  • Put a check mark in the box I know what I am doing
  • Select all instances of cdnns.dll if present, press on the >> button, to move the LSP into the Remove section.
  • Click on the Finish button.
______________________________

Double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

Next, you will be entering items into Pocket KillBox. Please select the “Delete on Rebootâ€

HELP

Unread postby blueranger » October 22nd, 2006, 1:43 pm

Hi Kim

Before I proceed can I just check something with you.

I downloaded files you stated. I then went to start>run>cmd.exe and typed in what you stated.

After sc stop hidport it stated "the request control is not valid for this service. After the sc delete hidport is stated "success". Can you confirm this is right before I proceed.

Hello blueranger,

Perfect. :)

Not all services have a stopable status, hence the message "the request control is not valid for this service" but you got a "success" message for the delete command which is exactly what I wanted. :)

HELP

Unread postby blueranger » October 22nd, 2006, 2:38 pm

Hi Kim

Can I just check the next stage with you before I proceed.

I opened the killbox exe cut and cut and pasted each line as stated and pressed the red x file. It asked me to reboot I said no and followed the same process until end. I was confused as at the "single file" in green was showing, and only the filename that I cut and paste at the end was displayed on reboot. Shall I proceed?

Yes proceed please. Killbox makes a log in the folder c:\!Killbox\logs - locate the log and post it with all the other logs I did request.

It is possible that you need to reveal hidden files and folders to see the logs more easily :

Make sure that you can see hidden files.
  1. Click Start.
  2. Click My Computer.
  3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  4. Select the View Tab.
  5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  6. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  7. Click Yes to confirm.
  8. Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
  9. Click OK.
