Hi HelpMe,

Welcome to MR Forum.

You are currently running Hijackthis from a Temp location. Please move Hijackthis to it's own folder. It can be done by following this tutorial :
http://www.nellie2.co.uk/extract.htm

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!
Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user. Please allow it.

You did a good job of cleaning the Smitfraud, but you still have some other malware and probably some remnants of Smitfraud too.

You are also still running HijackThis from a temporary location. Before you do anything, it's very important that you move HijackThis.exe to a permanent folder as instructed in my previous post. That's the only way we can access the backups if needed.

I see that you've already downloaded Ewido. Please update it to its latst definitions first, but just don't run it yet. We'll do that later.

Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
  • Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the ewido report scan.

You are running an older version of Java.

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9.
  • Scroll down to where it says " Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8
The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications.".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. It should have the icon next to it.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_09-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and the Ewido scan report please.

Hi,

You have the HijackThis.exe on your desktop, but not in a folder of its own. Please click on an empty space on the desktop. Go to New>Folder to create a new folder on the Desktop. Right click on it, and name it as HijackThis. Then, drag and drop HijackThis.exe into the newly created folder so that it will be housed in a folder of its own on your desktop.

Your system is still infected. :( We have more work to do.

You'll need to disable Norton script blocking and Ewido guard so that they will not interfere with the fixes:

To disable Norton Script Blocking:

Click Start>Run, type in services.msc and hit enter.

From the list find ScriptBlocking Service and right click on it... choose properties. Stop the service and change the Startup to Disabled for now and exit the services console.

To disable Ewido:
From the system tray:

Hi HelpMe,

I don't know if you're reading my instructions carefully. :( You are still running the HijackThis from a temporary directory. Please put it in a folder of its own as requested in previous posts.

kaspersky wouldn't go past a folder called C:\dell\MEDIAEXE\ONDRVMED, so that didn't work,

I'm almost sure that you are talking about c:\dell\mediaexe\ondrvmed.zip which is a huge Dell System restore file. Your virus scanner is going through this file making sure there are no viruses or other nasty things there. Please be patient and wait until the scan is completed and post back the results. Thanks.

Hi,

Please Click on HERE to download a self extractable version of hijackthis. Double click on hijackthis.exe to extract hijackthis to folder c:\hijackthis. It will extract it to that folder and open the folder for you. It will also create a shortcut on your desktop to hijackthis.

dunno if this makes any difference at all but the extension isn't zip its "BIN"

No, I think it's still the same thing. Please be patient and have Kaspersky finish its job.
