Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger help - for dummies like me!

Unread postby MariaM » June 2nd, 2005, 8:10 am

My pc freezes every time I get on to the desktop - can only access the interenet - have been reading with interest other people's probs with this but don't understand how to get Hijackthis, and what to do when I'm in safe mode. Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger is the problem, and would be grateful if anyone can help me using the most simple language....

Please download the latest version of HiJack This. Click here to download the latest version (1.99.1). Please save it in a permanent folder (such as C:\HJT). This is to ensure that backups are saved and accessible in the event you should need it. Follow the instructions below if you are unsure how to save it in a permanent folder:

1.) Click on the link to download HiJackThis.exe.
2.) When it pulls up the box (for you to pick a location to save the file), click on the pulldown menu and select "[C:]".
3.) Click on the button to "create new folder" and name the folder HiJackThis
4.) Double click on the folder you just made (to go into the folder) and click "save" on the bottom of the box.

Doubleclick tje Hijack This icon.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

The program will now do its work.

Wait till a notepadfile will open itself.

You'll see the cursor blinking in it and all you have to do is.

press control + A to select the whole text

press control + C to copy the whole text.

and when you are in this topic posting a post you click in the white screen with your mouse and then
press control + V

The content of the textfile is now in the post , all you have to do now is press submit.

Hi there - thanks for your help - whilst I was waiting I was able to get on the desk top - god knows what I have done because now I cannot go anywhere apart from the internet.

Whilst I could into the start menu and desktop I ran spybot and adaware - removing a pile of stuff. Got your message and have done the stuff on HijackThis, but cannot do anything else as it involves going into the Search menu. All that happens is that an error message pops up with the dreaded Dr Watson etc etc. What can I do now?????

Don't even know how to put an emoticon here.... how sad is that! but thanks all the same.[/img]

Good morning! I started the computer just now and I have been able to use the start menu, so I've done all you've asked, but not necessarily in the right order! Checking MY Computer didn't have either the file or folders so perhaps I delelted them anyway!

The xoftspy is version 413-88 - but I think I've deleted it any way.

If the computer's ok, can you tell me what I need to do to protect it from now on - I have:

McAfee
Spybot
Adaware

Your help has been fantastic - thank you so much :)

Here is my latest log:

Well done

We’re almost ready.

There’s a program on your computer running, which is not the most reliable program.

It is named clocksync.

Go to :
Start
Control Panel
Add/remove Programs.

Look in thelist for
Clocksync

Select it and click the change/remove button.

Restart your computer

Run Hijack this and put a check at the following line

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ClockSync] "C:\Program Files\ClockSync\Sync.exe" /q

Now click Fix checked

And also please remove the following folder

C:\Program Files\ClockSync

Restart your computer again.

Run Hijack this and place a fresh log on this board.

Good Morning Perculator!

Could not find clocksyn in the programme list or in the C:Program Files, but I did run a hijackthis and clicked on it in the list:.

Incidentally when I started the pc today it was fine (ish) I could get to the desktop etc etc, but after restarting just now the same old error pop ups appeared and the desktop froze.

Here is my log:

Good Morning Maria :) .

I wiil take a look again at your log, at the first quick look i can't find something but, i have an idea.

Download Ewido scan. Install it on your desktop
Now doubleclick the icon on your desktop. Update it.Very important, so please don't forget
Perform a full scan and copy the logs it makes on your desktop.

Restart your computer

Run Hijack This and place a fresh log on this board, together with the log from the ewido scan.

good luck!
