Hi,

I have Windows XP Pro and am currently using WinPatrol (Free). If I got WinPatrol Plus, would it indicate which of my Startup Programs are absolutely necessary and which are not? I would like to be able to turn the nonessenstial programs on only when I needed them. Thank you.

Hi Moon4707,

The Plus features will make it easier to find information on which startups are necessary, but it won't tell you outright which are/aren't needed.
Different people use their machines in different ways, so there is no way we can say what you don't need.

Systemlookup has a list of most common startup items, and it gives a general recommendation for them
Quote:
Status Key:
Y = Normally leave to run at start-up
N = Not required - often infrequently used tasks that can be started manually, if necessary
U = User's choice - depends whether a user deems it necessary
X = Malware, spyware, adware, or other potentially unwanted items

http://www.systemlookup.com/lists.php?list=2

I hope this helps :)

Thank you very much, Katana. I will get the Plus version. What I want to do is only start up with those programs that are necessary. The others I would like to be able to turn on and off as needed. The guidance that you outlined that the Plus version gives will be a great help to me in that direction. Have a Good one... :bom:

I think you misunderstood, the information below comes from Systemlookup, not WinPatrol Plus.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to stop you donating to WinPatrol :)
I just don't want you getting the wrong idea ;)
