Does a 4-Wire (2-pair) thin STP Cable exist?

Unread postby vict0r » January 6th, 2012, 8:45 pm

10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX only require two pairs to operate, located on pins 1 plus 2 and pins 3 plus 6.

An ordinary category 5 cable has four pairs.

My googling has not helped me to locate a thin 2-pair cable for 100Mbit/s networking purposes which I would need to pull through a small empty pipe along with two other cables (coax) in my home. A 4.6mm cable that I found is likely too thick.

Does anyone here know if such a cable exist for purchase? Where?

Rumors on google back in 2002 said one was available in Japan (2mm x 1mm) by company "Loas". http://www.tweaktown.com/news/2486/new_ ... index.html

I could probably manage with a thicker cable, maybe up to 3.5mm.

I haven't seen anything like that.

Would four-core burglar alarm cable be thin enough?

Thank you for the idea. I'm pretty sure it won't carry the networking signal. Do you have a link to a cable?

This cable should carry the signal but it's unshielded:

I'm hoping to find a shielded one. The search continues.
