Will This PCI Express Adapter Work?

Unread postby SpotCheckBilly » November 1st, 2011, 3:04 pm

Hey all,

Well I guess I may as well be the one to get the ball rolling in this new room. I have a Dell Studio XPS 435 desktop computer. I did not get a wireless adapter when I ordered it because I did not think I would ever need to connect wirelessly to the Internet. However, my new place have WiFi so I began searching for the internal adapter that I could afford. Those that I found at the Dell website were too high-priced and I couldn't find them for less anywhere else. My first choice was a Rosewill that was out of stock everywhere.

This one, the ENCORE ENEWI-2XN42 Wireless N300 Adapter has good ratings at newegg but I want to make sure that it will fit into my computer. It looks like it should.

I'm on a limited budget but if anyone has an idea for a better card in the under $30 price range, I'm happy to entertain suggestions.

Thanks in advance. :blob6: :blob6: -- SCB

I can't help you with the appropriateness of the adapter but I am definitely envious that you have a spare PCI slot!

Seeing as you have 3 PCI-E x1 ports in the desktop yes it will fit. However the one Wingman linked you too is more choices. And personally I Hven't heard of this brand before, so I can't vouch for it.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the advice. I ended up getting a Rosewill PCI-e, since I do have several of those slots available. It works very well and, in fact, I'm using it even as we speak. The only trouble I ran into, and I don't think it's a hardware issue, is that I have to reset the adapter several times a day to maintain the intranet speed. I have yet to find a workaround for this.

Anyway, thanks for the comments. I'm hoping that before too long I will be able to come back to work logs again. Have a great weekend. -- SCB :blob6: :blob6: :blob6: :blob6: :blob6:
