OK, let's see if we can get this cleaned up.
I assume that this is your IP: Hathway IP over Cable Internet Access

Please Print this page, you will not have Internet Access in Safe Mode.
Also copy the entire list of instructions to a notepad file. If notepad isn't working, see below for the fix.
Please read all of the following before making any fixes.
If you have any questions, please ask them here before attempting the fixes suggested.

First, we may need to fix your Notepad, if it isn't working properly.
Go here:
http://spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/wi ... pad_xp.zip
It is a direct download, save it to disk, extract a copy to:

c:\windows
Yes at the prompt

Also extract a copy of notepad to:

c:\windows\system32
Click Yes at the prompts.

Copy contents of code box below to a notepad file, save it to desktop named FixReg.reg, filetype .*. AllFiles.
Code: Select all
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:00000091
"NoActiveDesktopChanges"=dword:00000000
"NoViewContextMenu"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"NoDispBackgroundPage"=dword:00000000
"NoDispAppearancePage"=dword:00000000

Reboot into safe mode by tapping F8 at boot, then use the up/down arrows to select safe mode and LogIn as Administrator

Run hijackthis, but don't fix anything yet.
Click Config >> Misc Tools >> Open Process Manager
In process manager, end process on userinit.exe if it is in the list.

Go back to the main page of hijackthis again with no Windows Apps or Browser windows open, Scan, and checkmark/fix the following lines, if they are there:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.hotoffers.info/ad0179/
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
F3 - REG:win.ini: load=C:\Program Files\KEVIN\kevin.exe

Manually delete the following files or folders, if they are there:
Pay close attention to all of the spelling
C:\Program Files\KEVIN <<Entire Folder
Use Windows search function to locate and delete the following files. Set search to look in More Advanced Options >> System Folders, Hidden files and Folders, and SubFolders
file_0.exe
wininet32.exe
csrss.dll
dwvem.exe
guninst.exe
iau.exe
ipdnssec6.exe
lssas.exe
mservice.exe
msiau.dll
msqdevl.exe
MTC.dll
notepad.exe
P.exe
q.exe
searchdll.dll
smssa.dll
stisvsq.exe
svshost.exe
systr.dll
taskmgr.dll
tibs3.exe
tlist.dat
tlist.log
uvchost.dll
winlogon.dll
wp.exe

Still in safe mode,
Clean out your Temp files as follows:
Open Internet Explorer. You'll get a 404 page not found, but that is normal in safe mode.
At the top, click Tools>Internet Options> and then, in the center click Delete Cookies
Click Delete Files and then in the new applet check the box for all offline content
Click OK
Close that applet and open the C>Windows>Temp folder, and delete all files in there too, and all files in sub-folders of Temp.
Empty the C:\Windows\Prefetch Folder.
Empty ALL C:\Documents and Settings\user name here\LocalSettings\Temp Folders.

Next we're going to search registry and delete a few things, so please be careful.

Click Start
Run
type in regedit and click Enter.

At the top of registry editor, click Edit >> Find.
Copy this line into the search box, and then click Enter.
B599C57E-113A-4488-A5E9-BC552C4F1152
When found, L-click once to highlight it, then Right Click on it, and Delete.
Repeat the Search/delete until no more are found. Should be two of them.

Do the same for 145E6FB1-1256-44ed-A336-8BBA43373BE6 and delete those as well.

Now Right-click FixReg.reg then click Merge and allow it to merge with registry when prompted.

Now look for, and delete if found:
c:\wp.exe and c:\wp.bmp

Then reboot back into normal windows mode, and post a fresh log please. We may have more to do.

I'm still with you. Bear in mind though that I am also researching this (and others) plus working other live problems on another board.

A couple of questions..
Did you run into any problems with the various parts of the fix I posted?

Which files did you find to delete, if any?

Click start
Run
regedit
Enter

Navigate to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and l-click once to highlight it.
Go to File >>Export and save the file to desktop named HKLMRun.txt filetype .*. allfiles.
Do the same for HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, name it HKCURun.txt

and
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Control Panel name that one HKCUCP.txt

and
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies name it HKCUPolicies.txt
