My computer is taking forever to shut down

Unread postby binkyface » March 9th, 2006, 11:57 pm

Is there something wrong here? Also, my computer just randomly freezes up and shuts down. My husband thinks I have a virus but I think that it shuts down like that because we keep the tower in the cabinet of our desk with the door shut, and we also don't shut it down but that's because I hate sitting here waiting for it to shut itself down for 30 minute.
Anyway, I'm babbling.

Thanks for helping, y'all. Last time y'all helped me with Winfixer and it hasn't come back since!

Here's my HJT Logfile:

Hello binkyface and Welcome to Malware Removal,

I really don't see anything wrong with your hijackthis log. Let's do a few scans.

Spybot: Search and Destroy:
  1. Download 'Spybot: Search And Destroy'.
  2. Install it according to the instructions in 'How To Setup Spybot SD and Ad-Aware SE'.
  3. Next, 'Search for Updates' as the definitions are not likely to be up-to-date.
  4. Close ALL windows except Spybot SD
  5. Click the "Check for Problems" button
  6. Click 'Fix Selected Problems' and fix only the RED items.
  7. REBOOT to finish removing what Spybot SD found and clear memory

Ad-Aware SE by Lavasoft:
  1. Download 'Ad-Aware SE'.
  2. Install according to the instructions in "How To Setup Spybot SD and Ad-Aware SE"
  3. Next, 'Check for Updates' by clicking on the 'world globe' second from the right at the top of your Ad-Aware SE window.
  4. Install the updates.
  5. Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE
  6. Click on 'Start' and choose 'full scan' for a full scan.
  7. Quarantine anything that it finds and SAVE the log file.
  8. REBOOT to finish removing what Ad-Aware SE found and clear memory.

Please let me know if anything can not be cleaned by these utilities.

Ewido Trojan Scanner
Please download, install, and update the NEW free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  2. When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  5. Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
  6. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. Select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  7. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.

Scan again with HijackThis
Please POST
  • a New HijackThis log
  • the results from the Ewido log

in this thread using 'Add Reply'.
