Pop Up Hell

Unread postby Billybob » January 29th, 2006, 11:20 am

Can somebody please help me????

I've really done it this time and am afraid to even check email! While purusing some of the net's more "thoughtful" sites my computer took a nose dive and has a new background informing me it's now infected with spyware!!! Very sporting of them to tell me. I've run Spybot, Adaware and MS Antispyware but the background is still there and I'm treated to pop up's even when I'm off line!

Help........... :(

Hi BillyBob :)

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please click Scan, and check the following items (if they appear):

Check it as well. If you're not sure, leave it and only check the ones I asked you to check.

Then click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log.

Hi David :)

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you.

I installed and ran Fixwareout but was not prompted to reboot my computer. Also when I executed the program a command prompt immeditately opened asking me to press any key to remove which I did and then rebooted. (I don't know if these events are significant but wanted it mentioned) Next I reran HijackThis, selected the items you requested and rebooted again.

So, here's the latest!

Hi again :)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmrzo.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmrzo.exe

If you see a new item that wasn't in your last log in the O4 section of HijackThis, five-letters long, starting with dm... for example:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dm***.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dm***.exe (the *** stand for random letters)
or starting with hg***.exe for example:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hg***.exe] C:\Windows\System32\hg***.exe
or starting with cs***.exe for example:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cscyd.exe] cscyd.exe
Check it as well. If you're not sure, leave it and only check the ones I asked you to check.

Then click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log.

Hi again :)

You have SpySweeper installed. While this is a great program, we need to temporarily disable (not uninstall) the program because it might stop our fix. Image

SpySweeper
  1. Open SpySweeper
  2. Click Options
  3. Click Program Options
  4. Uncheck Load at windows startup.
  5. Click Shields
  6. Uncheck everything.
  7. Uncheck Home Page Shield.
  8. Uncheck Automatically restore default without notification.

Don't forget to re-instate Spysweeper when your machine is clean by re-checking everything you unchecked above.

You need to make sure you are fixing the random dm***.exe.

Open C:\WINDOWS\system32\dm***.exe (the *** stand for random letters) Delete these Files

Open FixWareout and run it.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmvfb.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmvfb.exe

If you see a new item that wasn't in your last log in the O4 section of HijackThis, five-letters long, starting with dm... for example:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dm***.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dm***.exe (the *** stand for random letters)
Check it as well. If you're not sure, leave it and only check the ones I asked you to check.

Then click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.

"copy/paste" the C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log.

Hi David :)

I'm still having a problem with FixWareout. :?

I tried disabling SpySweeper like you asked but my trial version had expired so I uninstalled it through add and remove in control panel then rebooted.

When it came back up I ran the FixWareout exe and a command prompt opened stating:

"This batch will remove WareOutand UnSpyPC from your system

Use at your own risk.

Press any key to continue . . ."

I pressed ENTER and immediately the following report was generated without any other prompts/actions:
Check for missing files
.....
C:\WINDOWS\system32\AUTOEXEC.NT not there
.....
End check for missing files
.....
VXD Check
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers]

33,32,45,56,4e,54,31,2e,44,4c,4c,00,00

End vxd check
.....
please post this at the forum

And here's the latest HJT:

Hi Billybob, we need to replace a few files on your system.

Double click "My Computer" then your hard drive (probably C drive) and open the "WINDOWS" folder.

Open "SYSTEM32" and see if the "AUTOEXEC.NT" file is in there. Chances are it isn't. If it is, then it's probably corrupt. Arrow up or hit "Back" to return to the main WINDOWS folder.

Go down to "Repair" and double click. You should find "autoexec.nt" and "config.nt" in there. Copy these files (Ctrl+C) then go back to SYSTEM32 and paste them there (Ctrl+V). It will ask you if you want to replace the old one—click "Yes".

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix. You will need to delete the old versions of FixWareout you have and download a newer version.

Please close the HijackThis program.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log.

Hello again Andy :)

You were dead on about my files being corrupted. I replaced and successfully ran the FixWareout scipt. Here are the logs:

Hi David,

Nothing unusual to note when rebooted. Only inconsistancy was HJT program exited to reboot computer without my having to back space per your instructions. Sorry, I know I'm not much help.

Here's the last log:
