Malware messages - Adclick and Powelik shf

Unread postby sfasihi » November 28th, 2014, 11:16 pm

My computer is freezing - when I go to My Picture folder - After viewing few pictures. These windows start appearing on right hand corner in the bottom.
1. Trojan.adclicker
2. Trojan.Powelik activity
3. Powershell stop working
4. pup/adware/fake application
As these messages start appearing computer start slowing down. When I close Picture Folder and go to internet, Facebook or any place - computer start crawling. And eventually freezes. I close every thing and go back in internet, select 'Tools' and clear the cache, sometime I have to do it couple of times. Then when I go to internet it works relatively better for short while. Messages keep showing up that Norton has blocked the attack. Computer slows down but does not freezes.
I do have Norton 360. which keep showing these Trojan names - attack blocked - but can not stop whatever is cause to
slow down.

Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the "Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my!" forum and wait for help.

Unless informed of in advance, failure to post replies within 3 days will result in this thread being closed.

Hi sfasihi

I'm Gary R,

Before we start: Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.

As an added safety precaution, before we start removing anything, I'd like you to make a backup of your Registry, which we can restore to if necessary.

Please click on THIS link, and follow the instructions for installing TCRB and creating a backup of your Registry.

Please observe these rules while we work:
  • Do not edit your logs in any way whatsoever.
  • Perform all actions in the order given.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Stick with it till you're given the all clear.
  • Remember, absence of symptoms does not mean the infection is all gone.
  • Don't attempt to install any new software (other than those I ask you to) until we've got your computer clean.
  • Don't attempt to clean your computer with any tools other than the ones I ask you to use during the cleanup process. If your defensive programmes warn you about any of those tools, be assured that they are not infected, and are safe to use.
If you can do these things, everything should go smoothly.
  • As you're using Windows 7, it will be necessary to right click all tools we use and select ----> Run as Administrator

It may be helpful to you to print out or take a copy of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Before we start to remove your infection, I'm going to need you to run some additional scans for me, which will give me a more complete picture of what we need to remove.

First ....

Please download AdwCleaner and save it to your desktop.

  • Double click AdwCleaner.exe to run it.
  • Click Scan.
  • A logfile will automatically open after the scan has finished.
  • Close the adwCleaner window, click ok to the prompt.
  • Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
  • You can also find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[R1].txt.

AT THIS POINT, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN ANYTHING THAT MAY BE FOUND

Next ....

  • Download FRST64 to your Desktop.
  • Double click Frst64.exe to launch it.
  • FRST will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press the Scan button.
    • When finished scanning 2 logs will open on your Desktop, FRST.txt and Addition.txt
    • Please post them in your next reply.

Summary of the logs I need from you in your next post:
  • ADWCleaner log
  • FRST.txt
  • Addition.txt

Please post each log separately to prevent it being cut off by the forum post size limiter. Check each after you've posted it to make sure it's all present, if any log is cut off you'll have to post it in sections.

Hi. Gary R.
As you have asked me to be safe side make a backup of my files and photos - I have never done it before. Therefore I went tp BestBuy and bought 1 TB back up drive. And installed on system and made a back. During the process I remembered you had said, "Don't load or add any thing". I completely forgot. I can I go forward or have to start all over again. Sorry.

When I said don't load or run anything on your computer, that did not mean you could not attach a drive to create a backup on, it just meant don't install any new programs, or make any attempt to remove this infection other than by following the instructions I gave you.

So please just run ADWCleaner and FRST, as directed in my previous post, and post me the logs they create please.

FRST will not harm your computer, however, if your anti-virus is preventing you from downloading it, then use another computer to download it, then transfer it to your computer using a USB drive.

If you're not able to do this, then please try the following instead ...

Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop.

If you already have a copy of OTL delete it and use this version.

  • Double click OTL.exe to launch the programme.
  • Check the following.
    • Scan all users.
    • Standard Output.
    • Lop check.
    • Purity check.
  • Under Extra Registry section, select Use SafeList
  • Click the Run Scan button and wait for the scan to finish (usually about 10-15 mins).
  • When finished it will produce two logs.
    • OTL.txt (open on your desktop).
    • Extras.txt (minimised in your taskbar)
  • Please post me both logs.

Hi. Gary R.
Thanks a lot for your help and assistance. 2nd alternate instructions ran fine.
I notice one think also. When I go into my Pictures folds that when all Trojans attacks start. Which start freezing the system.
Best Regards
Sfasihi

OK, let's get started cleaning your machine.

First ....

Please go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program and Uninstall the following:

Java 7 Update 51
RegClean-Pro

Old out of date versions of Java can be (and usually are) exploited to infect your machine.
Reg "Cleaners" of any type are a complete and utter waste of time, and do nothing to improve the performance of your computer. We see far too many problems on the forums caused by the use of these type of programs.

Reboot your computer once those programs have been uninstalled.

Next ...

  • Double click AdwCleaner.exe to run it.
  • Click Scan and allow the scan to finish.
  • Now click Clean to remove the items found.
  • Click OK to the prompt.
  • The tool will run & your computer will be rebooted automatically. A logfile will open after the restart.
  • Post the contents of the logfile with your next reply.
  • You can also find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[s1].txt.

Next ...

  • Double click OTL.exe to launch the programme.
  • Copy/Paste the contents of the code box below into the Custom Scans/Fixes box. (do not include Code: Select all)
Code: Select all
:OTL
CHR - Extension: Framed Display = C:\Users\SFasihi\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions\gagcbogmgkaogoadfcoicjdojbmkegao\1.0.1_0\
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {9D425283-D487-4337-BAB6-AB8354A81457} - No CLSID value found.
O3 - HKLM\..\Toolbar: (no name) - {9D425283-D487-4337-BAB6-AB8354A81457} - No CLSID value found.
[1 C:\Windows\*.tmp files -> C:\Windows\*.tmp -> ]
[1 C:\Program Files (x86)\*.tmp files -> C:\Program Files (x86)\*.tmp -> ]

:Files
ipconfig /flushdns /c

:Commands
[emptytemp]
[resethosts]

  • Click the Run Fix button.
  • OTL will now process the instructions.
  • When finished a box will open asking you to open the fix log, click OK.
  • The fix log will open.
  • Copy/Paste the log in your next reply please.

Note: If necessary, OTL may re-boot your computer, or request that you do so, if it does, re-boot your computer. A log will be produced upon re-boot.

Summary of the logs I need from you in your next post:
  • ADWCleaner fix log
  • OTL fix log
  • Let me know how your computer is behaving now please.

Please post each log separately to prevent it being cut off by the forum post size limiter. Check each after you've posted it to make sure it's all present, if any log is cut off you'll have to post it in sections.

Due to lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
