Spyware Striker 2.5 infection

Unread postby sammas31 » January 7th, 2006, 11:37 am

Thank God, I was able to get rid if Spyware Striker 2.5 ...

I got infected on Jan. 6 and and was able to get rid of it by doing a subset of the actions recommended by LDTate, i.e.:

Reboot in Safe Mode

Run HiJackThis and delete:
1: O2 - BHO ... C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\hp*.tmp[b] (the name changes)
2: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpywareStrike] C:\Program Files\SpywareStrike\SpywareStrike.exe /h

Run SpyBot and cleaned up everything it found

Run Ewido full scan and cleaned up everything it found

Uninstalled Spyware Striker using Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs

Used Windows Explorer to list all C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\*.exe that were updated on Jan 6 and deleted them. Also deleted C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ncompat.tlb, netwrap.dll, ot.ico, ts.ico

Rebooted in Normal mode.

It's gone now.

Thanks to all of you for your great advices, and good luck.
