Adware Still Present after Running JRT, Combofix & more

Unread postby djtphn1 » February 22nd, 2014, 12:26 pm

Hi There,

I am hoping someone can help me. For the past few weeks, (right after my young son moved in with me), my desktop computer has been infected with Adware/Malware. I will be browsing the computer and ads to play games, ads that automatically start scanning my computer and ads that say congratulations, I've won something, popup out of nowhere. Also, every time I log on, I get a rectangular box on the screen from conduit. I'm sorry, I can't remember offhand what it says.

On my own, I started looking around for removal tools and used a few that didn't work. I can't even remember how many I've used but here are the few I remember: hitman, symantec and AdwCleaner. I spoke with a computer guy who told me in Safemode with networking, to run malwarebytes or junk removal tool. I did both, to no avail. Finally, I spoke with him again and he told me it was time for combo fix. I ran that and thought it was working ok, then today more adware/malware, this time from porn sites because my son visited one of them yesterday without my knowledge or permission. So, I ran JRT and combofix again and just now popups started appearing again. I just can't get rid of this stuff. When I tried to do a system restore, there was no restore point that I could go back to that was created before the problem began. Can someone please help? I would so appreciate it. :flower:

Re: Adware Still Present after Running JRT, Combofix & more

Unread postby nunped » February 26th, 2014, 10:44 am

Hello djtphn1, and welcome to the forum.

My name is nunped and I'll be helping you with any malware problems.

Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.

Here are some guidelines for the cleaning process to run as easy as possible.

  1. Please read this topic: ALL USERS OF THIS FORUM MUST READ THIS FIRST where the conditions for receiving help here are explained.
  2. The instructions being given are for YOUR computer and system only! Using these instructions on a different computer can cause damage to that computer and possibly render it inoperable!
  3. You must have Administrator rights permissions for this computer.
  4. DO NOT run any other fix or removal tools unless instructed to do so!
  5. DO NOT install any other software (or hardware) during the cleaning process. This adds more items to be researched.
  6. Only post your problem at one help site. Applying fixes from multiple help sites can cause problems.
  7. Only reply to this thread. Do not start another thread.
  8. The absence of symptoms does not imply the absence of malware. Please continue responding until I give you the "All Clean".
  9. No Reply Within 3 Days will result in your topic being closed!

Read through these instructions with your full attention.
Please ask first if you have any doubts.

I am currently reviewing your logs and will return, as soon as possible, with additional instructions.

Hi djtphn1,

Please run the following scans:

This program should only be run once!
Make sure that CKScanner.exe is on the your desktop before running the application!

  1. Right-click on the CKScanner.exe icon and select "Run as Administrator", then click the Search For Files button.
  2. When the scan is finished (the cursor hourglass disappears) click the Save List To File button.
A text file will be created on your desktop named "ckfiles.txt"
  3. Click OK at the file saved message box. Double-click on the ckfiles.txt icon on your desktop.
  4. Please copy/paste the contents of ckfiles.txt in your next reply.

Step 2 - MGADiag
  • Please download this tool from Microsoft.
  • Right click on MGADiag.exe and select: Run as Administrator.
  • Click Continue.
  • The program will run. It takes a while to finish the diagnosis, please be patient.
  • Once done, click on Copy.
  • Open Notepad and paste the contents in the window.
  • Save this file and copy/paste it in your next reply.

Step 3 - OTL
Please download OTL by Old Timer. Save it to your Desktop.
If you can't download the exe file, try these links:
http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.com
http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.scr
  • Right-click OTL.exe (or OTL.com or OTL.scr) and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the program.
  • Click the Scan All Users checkbox.
Leave the remaining selections to the default settings.
  • Click on Run Scan at the top left hand corner.
  • When done, two Notepad files will open.
    • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened, maximized
    • Extras.txt <-- Will be minimized on task bar.
  • Please post the contents of both OTL.txt and Extras.txt files in your next reply.

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
