Hi andrbrks,

Ok, let's proceed.

Fix with FRST
  • Click Start
  • Type notepad.exe in the search programs and files box and click Enter.
  • A blank Notepad page should open.
  • Copy - paste the content below

DeleteJunctionsInDirectory: C:\Program Files\Windows Defender
HKU\Katie\...\Winlogon: [Shell] Explorer.exe <==== ATTENTION
C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Desktop\Install\{b0ca9241-7088-efd6-d47d-015d0122b1d5}
C:\Users\Katie\AppData\Roaming\cache.ini

Save it as fixlist.txt in the same folder where you saved FRST64.exe

fixlist.txt must be in the same location where FRST64.exe tool is!

Start FRST in a similar manner to when you ran a scan earlier in safe mode, but this time when it opens ....
  • Press the Fix button once and wait.
  • FRST will process fixlist.txt
  • When finished, it will produce a log fixlog.txt and will keep that log in the same folder where FRST64.exe is.

Next:
Download the ESET services repair tool, extract the file to your desktop.
  • Double-click ServicesRepair.exe.
  • If security notifications appear, click Continue or Run and then click Yes when asked if you want to proceed.
  • Once the tool has finished, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Click Yes to restart.
  • A log will be saved in the CCSupport folder the tool created on your desktop, please post the content in your next reply.

Please, post both logs and give an update on computer's performance.

I attempted to boot into normal mode, and all users are still not displayed, effectively locking me out of the machine.

Just want to check in and see if you're still available. I understand you're probably very busy and just have not had the time for these side projects.

There are entries in the logs you have supplied that indicate your computer is connected at some point (regularly or irregularly) to a University Network.

This forum does not support computers that are connected to such Networks .... see .... http://malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtop ... 11#p531111

I'm sorry, but because of this we are unable to help you further with your problem, and this topic is now closed.
