Hi frerom,
I believe this computer has been infiltrated by an adware problem.
This morning when I logged on to the MR forum, there were ads for computer fixes in some of the posts. They were in 3inch by 3 inch square with a green background.

There are some Advertisements on the site, but they are not malicious.
The Ads should disappear when you sign in, at the bottom of the forum home page it states...
Advertisements do not imply our endorsement of that product or service. Register to remove all ads.

Do you still see Ads when you are signed into the site?

Hi Cypher,
When I registered or logged in the advertisements were removed and the text was aligned.

Hi Cypher,
Yes the computer appears to be running very well. No actual problems.
I guess I shouldn't worry about those ads that I see before I login?

Re Google Chrome. I was surprised to find out that it was removed from the computer. It was my ISP technician that remotely installed it. I plan to reinstall it at a future date. I called the ISP because I thought the original problem could be due to a problem with their Internet email site.

I feel we can consider the topic closed.

Excellent.

No, nothing to worry about there, anyone who is not signed in will see those ads, me included :)

It's your choice to reinstall it, but i would recommend FireFox if you are looking for another browser.

Ok lets cleanup and remove the tools we used.

Clean up with OTL

  • Double-click OTL.exe to start the program. This will remove some of the tools we used to clean your pc.
  • Close all other programs apart from OTL as this step will require a reboot
  • On the OTL main screen, press the CleanUp! button
  • Say Yes to the prompt and then allow the program to reboot your computer.

You can now delete any tools/logs we used if they remain on your Desktop.

Please read the article below which will give you a few suggestions for how to minimise your chances of getting another infection.

I would be grateful if you could reply to this post so that I know you have read it and, if you've no other questions, the thread can be closed.

Safe surfing!
