I don't know how this works, so if someone could help me out that'd be great. My computer is infected with something that involves Spy Axe and is not being picked up by my spybot, ad-aware, or AVG antivirus programs. (Well actually they are picking up certain problems, but are not getting rid of them.) I have Hijack This, but i have no idea what to fix and what to do after i scan my system. Also, the Spy Axe keeps installing itself on my computer and i can't get rid of it, and there's all these "Your comp. is infected" messages constantly popping up everywhere, and my homepage is even being changed every time i go to my internet explorer. I am going to post my last Hijack This scan logfile under this message and hopefully someone out there can help me get rid of this Spy Axe virus thing. My brand new computer is a mess because of this and i really need help.

Hello, and welcome to the forums. :)

First, please read and then print out the following instructions so you have them readily at hand for when you are in safe mode and cannot access the internet...

Next, go to the following linked post which contains a link to Nick's Blog where you will find instructions for removing this particular pest...


NOTE: AVG antivirus sometimes has a conflict with the smitRem fix that is needed to remove the malware from your system. So, when following the blog instructions, after you have disconnected from the internet and booted into safe mode, but before running smitRem, you will need to disable AVG resident shield scanning while running this fix...

double-click on the AVG Tray Icon
double-click on "AVG Resident Shield"
uncheck "Turn on AVG Resident Shield Protection" then click OK.

Don't forget to turn it back on after cleanup!

After you've finished following the blog instructions and have rebooted back into normal mode, click here to go to the Panda ActiveScan site...

- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of smitfiles.txt and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply. Let us know if any problems persist, and we will see what remains to be done.
