I am sorry Maxi but it will NOT produce a log! I tried it multiple times and I had someone who has experience with combo fix. It runs then turns itself off and then turns on the "box" I had previously mentioned. C:\ComboFix.txt does not exist. Yes I did disable the antivirus and it only takes about 2 min to run and then shuts off leaving the "box". It is saved to the desktop as maxi.

P.S. some of your instructions for downloading were not fully correct I do not know if that is Windows 7 or firefox but i have to right click and tell it to "save as" to be able to do what you wanted me to. Just so you know for helping other people! :)

Hi problemperson,

Did you try ComboFix from safemode ?
Step 1

TDSSKiller - Rootkit Removal Tool
Please download the TDSSKiller.exe by Kaspersky... save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!
  1. Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista - W7 users: Right-click and select "Run As Administrator".
If TDSSKiller does not run... rename it. Right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. ektfhtw.com). If you don't see file extensions, please see: How to change the file extension.
  2. Click the Start Scan button. Do not use the computer during the scan!
  3. If the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.
  4. If malicious objects are found, they will show in the "Scan results - Select action for found objects" and offer 3 options.
    • Ensure SKIP is selected... DO NOT attempt to FIX anything yet!
    • Now click on Report to open the log file created by TDSSKiller in your root directory C:\
  5. A log file named TDSSKiller_version_dd.mm.yyyy_hh.mm.ss_log.txt will be created and saved to the root directory. (usually Local Disk C:).
  6. Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.

Step 2

aswMBR - Scan

Please download aswMBR.exe ... © Avast Software ( 511KB ). Save it to your desktop.
  1. Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it
  2. Click the "Scan" button to start the scan.
  3. On completion of the scan, "Scan finished successfully" press the "Save log" button.
  4. You'll be prompted to save a file named "aswMBR.txt"... Save it to your desktop.
  5. Please copy and paste the contents of aswMBR.txt in your next reply.
Note: A file will be created and placed on your desktop when you execute aswMBR, named MBR.dat... this is a copy of your MBR record, before we make changes, it can be used to recover the MBR record to it's previous condition, if problems exist after changes.

In your next reply please include:
The log from tdssKiller.
The log from aswMBR.exe

This computer is going to drive me insane! It wont run either of those scans! could that be a problem caused by malware or with the OS?
I did run Combofix in safe mode and I got the same results.

Also I believe the redirection problem is in the registry. As that is where people with the same problem have had it.

Hi problemperson,

I need you to give me the exact error messages you are receiving when the programs (tdss killer, aswMBR) wont run. If you want you can take screenshots and post them here for me to see. Also describe in detail how the computer is running. Are other programs running ok ?

Windows 7 screenshot
1. press and hold the function key and press printscreen.
2. Open paint.
3. Click on paste (you should see your screenshot)
4. Save the screenshot and post it here.

Also post a fresh set of DDS logs. (both logs)

That is the problem. I dont even get an error message. It will do nothing, it does not even register in task manager.

This person said it well.

"How to fix Google search results redirect redirected

I am using Windows XP and Mozilla Firebird as browser with NoScript add-on<<<the add-on just helped me with issue till I got fix.

Also affects all users names on computer.

IF you are being redirected to random ad sites then this is the fix that I got after 3 days. Have tried AdWare, S&D, MalWareBytes, SmitFraudFix, 7770Finder, ESET NOD32, CCleaner and a few other scrubs and probably a few I cant remember.

HijackThis did nothing and showed nothing as you can see from ppls post above. NOT to say its not good cause in the past it has worked. Just thik for one this is to new and two its in the registry.

Symptoms: Do a Google search in an actual browser window, NOT THE TOOL BAR. I would get the results I was looking for with the correct URLs under each result. Like searched Microsoft and it would come up with addresses from microsoft like: www.microsoft.com/ - 76k or www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/en/default.aspx - 44k -

BUT when clicking a link I would usually get the page that it said the first time but when going back to the search results the next link would be some ad site with usually no WWW at the beginning. And this would last about 4 clicks. That is, by going to stupid ad site then back to results 4x then finally getting the page it was suppose to show. "

There are a few small differences like I am running widows 7 not XP. And it does not effect users names on this computer computer.

This is the site I found this on if you are interested (other people used tdss.exe to fix this as well)

I am sorry I can not tell you more but i dont have more to tell. If there is something specific you need please tell me.

Hi problemperson,

You need to read the questions I ask carefully and answer them. I asked if you had problems running other programs. I also asked for fresh logs from DDS. We will get nowhere if you don't answer what I ask you.

In your next reply please include:
Both logs from DDS.
The answer to my question.

Sorry! I was very tired so I misunderstood what you wanted!!

No I do not have a problem with any programs other then those stated as far as I know. Internet runs (with the exception of it redirecting), I have some pc games all run fine and I also am still able to run scans such as Ccleaner superantispyware and malwarebytes. So I have to wonder if that could mean I am having a problem when it is downloading? Could there be something interfering?

Hi problemperson,

Please refrain from trying to fix this yourself as you could make your computer unbootable very easily.

Bootable Kaspersky CD

  1. Download the Kaspersky Rescue Disk ISO file
  2. Burn the Kaspersky Rescue Disk ISO image to a CD
  3. Insert Bootable Kaspersky Rescue Disk CD into the CD drive and boot the computer
  4. The screen should look like - press Enter

    Image
  5. Then this screen will appear

    Image
  6. Check the hard drives that you want to scan (C:) and click Start Scan
  7. When the scan has finished choose to delete any infections found and make a note of how many items
  8. remove the CD and reboot into Windows and post the results in your next reply

Hi problemperson,

How far did you get ? Did you burn the iso file to a cd ? When you tried to boot fom the cd what happened ?

I tested this on my Windows 7 this morning and it worked. When I booted my computer I had to press f2 to get into "boot options". I then selected to boot from cd and it booted. ( I was using a "cd-r" cd). When your computer starts you should see options to press an F-key, before it disappears press the one for boot options. Then you should be able to chose "boot from cd".

Hi problemperson,

Are you using wifi ? If you are try connecting your router and computer directly to each other using an ethernet cable. This might get the disk to update.

If your not successful with the update it will do no harm to scan your computer anyway. If the scan finds anything post the results back here for me to see.

Regards maxi :)
