Infected computer

Unread postby johnandjulie13 » November 30th, 2011, 8:44 am

Yesterday, Microsoft Security Essentials indicated that the following items were detected: Trojan:Win32/Aureon.FL; Trojan:Win32/Alureon.FE. While Microsoft Security Essentials indicated that it had removed the software, something got through and I stupidly clicked on a "repair" button which had the following repercussions: Desktop background is gone (no themes are available), No programs are available in the "All Programs" file (there are various folders but they are all empty). No programs show up in my taskbar. I ran a full scan with Microsoft Security Essentials and it then also detected the following: Exploit:Java/CVE2010-4452; Exploit:Java/Blacole.BW; Exploit:Java/Blacole.BV; Exploit:Java/Blacole.BU. After identification, Microsoft Security Essentials indicated that the detected items were removed. When I run MSCONFIG, under "Startup," the item QVTHcxPJpj.exe is now listed. I underlying file was placed in the Program Data directory and I deleted the file and unchecked the item so it would not run. Here are the DDS logs. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Regards,

John

Unread postby maxi » November 30th, 2011, 12:03 pm

Hello johnandjulie13,

Welcome to the forum!

My name is maxi and I'll be helping you with any malware problems.

Currently I am working under the guidance of the MRU teachers and everything I post to you, must first be approved by them.
This additional review process can add some extra time to my responses, but I will post back with instructions for you as soon as possible.

Before we begin, please read and follow these important guidelines, so things will proceed smoothly.
  1. The instructions being given are for YOUR computer and system only!
Using these instructions on a different computer can cause damage to that computer and possibly render it inoperable!
  2. You must have Administrator rights, permissions for this computer.
  3. DO NOT run any other fix or removal tools unless instructed to do so!
  4. DO NOT install any other software (or hardware) during the cleaning process. This adds more items to be researched.
  5. Only post your problem at (1) one help site. Applying fixes from multiple help sites can cause problems.
  6. Print each set of instructions if possible - your Internet connection will not be available during some fix processes.
  7. Only reply to this thread, do not start another one. Please, continue responding, until I give you the "All Clean!"
Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

I am currently reviewing your log and will return, as soon as possible, with additional instructions. In the meantime...
Please take time to read the Malware Removal Forum Guidelines and Rules where the conditions for receiving help at this forum are explained.

Please read all instructions carefully before executing and perform the steps, in the order given.
lf, you have any questions or problems, executing these instructions, <<STOP>> do not proceed, post back with the question or problem.

Regards maxi :)

Hi johnandjulie13,

Step 1
Run CKScanner
  1. Please download CKScanner from Here
  2. Important: - Save it to your Desktop.
  3. Right-click CKScanner.exe and select Run as administrator..., then click Search For Files.
  4. After a very short time, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File.
  5. A message box will verify the file saved.
  6. Double-click the CKFiles.txt icon on your desktop and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.

Step 2
MGA Diagnostics
I need you to run a tool which will aid in determining what additional steps we'll need to perform.
  • Please download this tool from Microsoft and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right click on MGADiag.exe and select Run As Administrator to run it.
  • Click "Run" again and then click "Continue".
  • The program will run. It takes a while to finish the diagnosis, please be patient.
  • Once done, click on Copy.
  • Open Notepad and paste the contents in. Save this file and post it in your next reply.

By the way is this computer used for work ?

In your next reply please include:
The log from CKScanner.exe.
The log from MGADiag.exe.
The answer to my question.

Regards maxi :)

Hello Maxi:

Thank you for your assistance. I occassionally use the computer to access my virtual desktop at work but the computer is primarily for my family's personal use.

Per your request, I have gone through your two steps. For step 1, here is the CKScanner log:

CKScanner - Additional Security Risks - These are not necessarily bad
scanner sequence 3.RP.11.SFNABT
----- EOF -----

For your second step, here is the log from the MGA diagnostic tool:

As you are posting for help for a computer also used for"Business".

May I draw your attention to THIS topic, which you should have read before posting for help.

The section Posting for help for business related machines explains why we do not offer help for such computers.

This topic is now closed
