Win32:Malware-gen infection

Unread postby rbd » November 10th, 2011, 9:15 am

Hello!

A few days ago my antivirus blocked a malware while I was browsing. So I did a boot-time scan on my laptop and found that a few files are infected with "Win32:Malware-gen".
When asked what to do, I tried to move them to virus chest or delete them, but was always refused so I could only choose to ignore them.

Since that scan, whenever I right-click on a file, the Windows Installer comes up to install an update to Acer eDataSecurity Management (one of the infected files has this name!), but then aborts as it needs to be run as administrator.
The same thing happens even if I Ctrl+C or press "Delete" on a file. To avoid this, if I want to delete it I have to drag it to the Recycle Bin.

When I right-click from the administrator profile (which I only use to update/install/remove software), the installation starts but I cancel it immediately.

Can someone please help me?

Until I know what kind of infection my laptop has, I'll try not to connect it to the web but write to the forum from another computer (whenever I have an opportunity for this), unless I have no choice.
So below are my DDS logs from last night.

I appreciate your help.

PS.
Two questions:
1) Windows Update tells me that the Malicious Software Removal Tool is ready to be downloaded and installed.
I haven't done anything yet. Should I proceed?
2) Firefox tells me a new version (v8) is available: can I install it?
