IE 9 Redirects on Google Searches

Unread postby thjeepcj » November 3rd, 2011, 10:57 am

Hello,

I have seen several posts but I am not clear on what I need to remove. Here is the situation:
- I go to google and enter a search item.
- the system will bring up the list of possible websites
- when I click on the appropriate website it sends me to a different site. Ususally a marketing site. The site comes up autoinsearch.com. It then sends it to a site called search.yellowwise.com.

I run my various scans and they do not pick up anything. I did review the various forums and found the Trend Micro Hijack log file software. Below is the logs from the log file:

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

Re: IE 9 Redirects on Google Searches

Unread postby DFW » November 4th, 2011, 4:45 am

Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.
If you think you have similar problems, please post the required log/s in the forum and wait for help.

Hi thjeepcj and welcome..

I'm DFW and I am going to try and help you with your Malware problem. Please observe the following points and rules while we work:

  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine!.
  • The clean up process can take time. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Refrain from running self fixes as this will hinder the malware removal process.
  • It may prove beneficial if you print of the following instructions or save them to notepad as I post them.
  • Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
  • Some of the Logs we ask for can take some time to Analise, so please be patient
  • This may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
Note: No Reply Within 3 Days Will Result In Your Topic Being Closed.

Before we start:
Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer.
However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection,
and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system,
or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop. Because of this,
I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.

Going over your log, be back soon.

Windows Vista Advice

All applications I ask to be used will require to be run in Administrator mode. IE: Right click on and select Run as Administrator.
Your Operating System in use comes with a inbuilt utility called User Access Control(UAC).
When prompted by this with anything I ask you to do carry out please select the option Allow.

Gmer
Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here.
  • Right click on .exe file, and select Run As Administrator to run it If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO

    Image
Click the image to enlarge it

  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in reply
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Note: Do not run any programs while Gmer is running.

Run a Scan with OTL
Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop (right-click the link, select Save Target As..., select your Desktop and press Save).
    • Right click on OTL.exe and select Run As Administrator to run it. If Windows UAC prompts you, please allow it.
    • Check the boxes labeled :
      • Scan All Users
      • Extra Registry > Tick Use SafeList
    • Click the Run Scan button.
    • When the scan is complete, two text files will be saved to the Desktop and opened in Notepad:
      • OTL.txt <- this one will be maximized
      • and Extras.txt <-this one will be minimized
    • Make sure Format->Word Wrap is unchecked
    • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of OTListIt.txt and Extras.txt in your reply

Please post back with

Gmer Log
Both OTL Logs.

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
