First of all I have to mention that my McAfee removed "OTL.exe" complaining that it has found the following Trojan in it:

Artemis!3270CB86F79B

I can not download OTL from the same location in your earlier post (McAfee prevents downloading it for the same Trojan)

Re: hijacked browser - Random words change to spam links

Unread postby deltalima » November 15th, 2011, 6:05 am

Hi pey321,

The original problem you reported,

It looks like that there is a special spyware that selects random words in a
text that is displayed in a browser and changes them to a hyper link.

Does this happen on all web sites or just certain sites?

If so please let me have a link to one of the affected pages.

Right now it happens on only a very limited number of sites such as "jpost.com".

Hi pey321,

Bootable Kaspersky CD

  1. Download the Kaspersky Rescue Disk ISO file
  2. Burn the Kaspersky Rescue Disk ISO image to a CD
  3. Insert Bootable Kaspersky Rescue Disk CD into the CD drive and boot the computer
  4. The screen should look like - press Enter

    Image
  5. Then this screen will appear

    Image
  6. Check the hard drives that you want to scan (C:) and click Start Scan
  7. When the scan has finished choose to delete any infections found and make a note of how many items
  8. remove the CD and reboot into Windows and post the results in your next reply

The program ran for about 8 hours and stocked on scanning last few files (with %99 progress) while using CD all the time. So I stopped it manually. It found a Trojan in the old archived email files that I never used (dated back to 2001).
I have obtained the bootable Windows 7.0 CDs and planning to re-install Windows. The reason that I didn't do this sooner is that I was hopping to find more information about this infection that can be useful for future infections.

Hi pey321,

I have obtained the bootable Windows 7.0 CDs and planning to re-install Windows.

That is the best decision in this case.

Once you have re-installed Windows, make sure you install Antivirus software and install all Windows updates before anything else.

Do you have any further questions?

As the resolution of this issue requires a reformat, and there have been no further questions posted regarding that process, this topic is now closed.
