Some type of critter...

Unread postby session09 » October 20th, 2011, 8:10 pm

I downloaded a audio file for some research I'm doing from a trusted site (email from friend). The file wouldn't open in Media Player, a codec error would pop. I tried opening it up in Gold Wave and the same type of error would occur. Thinking the worst, I ran Norton 360 but it came up clean. I went back to my start up tray to check on the results of Norton and noticed a new icon in the tray.

The icon looked like the Google ball and when moused over would display 'FreePlayer'. I clicked on that to run the audio file but instead of a menu of command selections there was a menu of pound signs. After saying a few choice words, I went to try another scan knowing I would surely find something now but Norton was missing from my start tray, there are also 6 or 8 winsys32.exe's running and none can be stopped. I couldn't shut down either and had to shut down by powering off manually.

I imediately logged back on in safe mode and ran a dds scan for you and here I am (again...second time in 2 weeks. *sigh* ), the requested logs are below.
