Hi Michelle,

Can you try the ESET Online scan again please? There isnt enough information in the log to go on.

I am concerned you were not able to locate Microsoft Security Essentials. You should find it in the System Tray (Lower right hand corner of screen next to the time).
Running the following scan should tell us if there is a problem.

Security Check

  • Please download Security Check by screen317 from one of the links below:
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Right click SecurityCheck.exe And select " Run as administrator " , then follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt
  • Please post the contents of that document.

For your next reply
  • Eset log
  • SecurityCheck log.

Thanks,

diver79.

Hi diver79,

I found Microsoft security essentials. It wasn’t displaying in the system tray as it was set to only display notifications, not the icon. I followed the instructions to disable it (have enabled it again) to do the eset online scan again, however it did not create any log file, nor was there an option to uninstall it – only a finish option. I ran it again and the same thing happened. The first time I did it and posted that very short log, it opened a notepad with those few lines in it, but still there was no uninstall option that time, only the finish option. I was able to run the security check though.

Cheers
Michelle

Hi Michelle,

OK, it looks like there is a problem with the ESET online scan. Lets run a full scan with Microsoft Security Essentials instead.

You can first run a temp file cleaner to reduce the scan time. Please download ATF Cleaner to your desktop.

  • Right-click ATF-Cleaner.exe And select " Run as administrator " to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
  • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

MSE Full Scan
  • Open Microsoft Security Essentials
  • On the Home tab under Scan options select Full Scan and select Scan Now.
  • The scan may take some time, let it run until it completes.
  • It will not produce a log so you will have to check the History tab and select the All Detected items option.
  • Please let me know what, if anything was found in the Detected items section.

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
