New netbook is behaving weird

Unread postby JackSp2011 » June 23rd, 2011, 8:42 pm

I bought a netbook in January. I did not pay for the anti virus and instead downloaded a free anti virus. Since the last 2 weeks, the netbook has become very very slow. Task manager shows 9 instances of chrome running when i have only 4 tabs open. Scrolling when browsing is slow and the disk light keeps on blinking all the time. Sometimes it seems like the cursor goes to an hourglass while browsing seemingly for no reason. I did the disk clean up. Not sure if i need a defrag so soon. I havent installed too many new programs since I bought it.

Hi JackSp2011,
Sorry for the delay.
If you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, please proceed:

Note: you should always have ONE, and ONE ONLY antivirus running and updated on your machine.
In this case, the multiple Antivirus programs will paralyze (or ruin) the operation of the machine.

You also have too many programs starting at once for your Windows 7 edition.
------------------------------------------------
Remove Programs Using Control Panel
From Start, Control Panel, click on Uninstall a program under the Programs heading.
Right click each Entry, as follows, one by one, if it exists, choose Uninstall/Change, and give permission to Continue:

Avira AntiVir Personal - Free Antivirus
Adobe Reader 9.1 MUI
McAfee Internet Security Suite

Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller.
-----------------------------------------------------------
REBOOT (RESTART) Your Machine
---------------------------------------------
Run a Scan with OTL
  • Download OTL to your desktop.
  • You can also download OTL from HERE
  • Right click the the icon to run it and choose "Run as administrator".. Make sure all other windows are closed to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Click Scan All Users. Also click Include 64-bit Scans if your Windows is 64-bit.
  • When the window appears, In the Standard Registry box, click All.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
    • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location
as OTL (should be on your desktop).
    • Make sure Notepad's Format, Wordwrap is unchecked.
    • Please copy the contents of each of these files, one at a time, and post them in your next reply.
  • Use separate replies if you wish.
The Extras.txt file will only show up the very first time you run OTL.

Due to Lack of Response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
