Hello jrcigar,
The ESET scan would not allow me to copy the text but it did say that no threats were found.

The log created by ESET scanner is located in C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt... Please check this directory.

And yet let continue our treatment...
You need to run an OTL fix one more time. Of cause, before any fixing action which can touch registry, you need to create a full registry backup to have possibility to restore previous conditions if something goes wrong...

Step 1.
ERUNT - Emergency Recovery Utility NT - program
You already downloaded it and installed...

Run to make a full backup:
This will create a full backup of your registry. ERUNT can be used to restore the registry from this backup, if needed.
  1. Please navigate to Start -> All Programs -> ERUNT, then double-click ERUNT from the menu.
  2. Click on OK within the pop-up menu.
  3. In the next menu under C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT\DD-MM-YYYY under Backup options make sure both the following are selected:
    • System registry.
    • Current user registry.
  4. Next click on OK at the prompt, then reply Yes.
After a short duration the Registry backup is complete! pop-up message will appear.
  5. Now click on OK. A registry backup has now been created.
< STOP > If you did not successfully complete this step. < STOP > Do not continue with any other steps, post back and let me know!

Step 2.
Run OTL Script
  1. Double-click OTL.exe to start the program.
  2. Copy and Paste the following code into the Image textbox. Do not include the word Code
    Code: Select all
    :Reg
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "Ljifeyiteg"=-

    [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1078081533-1450960922-839522115-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "Ljifeyiteg"=-

    :Commands
    [EMPTYTEMP]
    [EMPTYFLASH]
    [CREATERESTOREPOINT]

  3. Then click the Run Fix button at the top.
  4. Click Image.
  5. OTL may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
  6. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot. Copy and Paste that report in your next reply.

Please include in your next reply:
  1. Any problem executing the instructions?
  2. Contents of report after running OTL fix script.
  3. Contents of ESET log.txt if you find it.
  4. Do you still receive error message "Error loading C:\Windows\ctcetc.dll The specific module could not be found." ?
  5. Do you see any changes in computer behavior?

Thanks,
pgmigg

Hi. :)

Hard-Drive Free Space Advice:

Drive F: | 232.88 Gb Total Space | 13.75 Gb Free Space | 5.90% Space Free | Partition Type: NTFS
This is considered dangerously low. A Hard-Drive requires a bare minimum of 15% available free space to be able to function correctly, but at least 25% is better in my humble opinion.

I suggest you remove say some documents/files/pictures etc to a form of removable media for example to free up some space. As otherwise any type of system maintenance will prove to be problematic and eventually the actual Hard-Drive itself may cease to function correctly at all.

Next:

Out of date Adobe and Java installations pose a security risk. They can be used by malware as a means to infect a computer and or re-infect. We will update both in due course.

Now please go to Start >> Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

Adobe Reader 9.4.2
Java(TM) 6 Update 20

To do so, click once on each of the above in turn to highlight and then click on the Remove button.

Reset SP3 Firewall:

Click on Start >> Run... and cut/paste in the following and click on OK
Code: Select all
firewall.cpl
Click on the Advanced tab >> Restore Defaults >> At the prompt click on Yes >> OK

Now click on the General tab >> select Off(not recommended) >> OK.

Note: No need for it to be active after the reset becuse you have the McAfee AntiVirus Plus application installed has a Firewall component.

New Java Installation:

  • Click here to visit Java's website.
  • Scroll down to Java SE 6 Update 25 (JDK or JRE). Click on Download JRE.
  • Check (tick) Java SE Runtime Environment 6u25 License Agreement box.
  • Click on jre-6u25-windows-i586.exe link next to Windows x86 Offline to download it and save this to a convenient location.
  • Double-click on on jre-6u25-windows-i586.exe to install Java.

Note: During installation de-select the option to install McAfee Security Scan Plus if offered.

New Adobe Reader Installation:

  • Go here and click on AdbeRdr1001_en_US.exe to download the latest version of Adobe Reader.
  • Save this file to your desktop and run it to install the latest version of Adobe Reader.
  • After the new Reader is installed, Open Adobe Reader X.
  • OK the license.
  • Click on Edit and select Preferences.
  • On the Left, click on the Javascript category and Uncheck Enable Acrobat Javascript.
  • Click on the Security (Enhanced) category and Uncheck Automatically trust sites from my Win OS security zones.
  • Click on the Trust Manager category and Uncheck Allow opening of non-PDF file attachments with external applications.
  • Click the OK button

Next:

Let myself know when completed the above and if any further issues remaining, thank you.

Hi,

I realize that the F drive is dangerously full but it is an external hard drive and I am in the process of getting another external hard drive to transfer a lot of the files over.

Also, I removed the following programs with no problems:

Adobe Reader 9.4.2
Java(TM) 6 Update 20

I was able to reset the SP3 firewall with no problems.

I was able to install new Java and Adobe reader with no problems.

Besides that, it seems like the computer is back to normal with no problems! Thank you so much for all your help I really appreciate it!

Fair play.

Good and you're most welcome!

Next:

Congratulations your computer appears to be malware free!

Now I have some tasks for your good self to carry out as part of a clean up process and some advice about online safety.

Importance of Regular System Maintenance:

I advice you read both of the below listed topics as this will go a long way to keeping your Computer performing well.

Help! My computer is slow!

Also so is this:

What to do if your Computer is running slowly

Reset SR Points/Clean up with OTL:

  • Double-click OTL to start the program.
  • Copy the lines from the codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):
Code: Select all
:Commands
[ClearAllRestorePoints]
  • Return to OTL, right-click in the Custom Scans/Fixes window (under the cyan bar) and choose Paste.
  • Then click the red Run Fix button.
  • Let the program run unhindered. When finished click on OK and close the log that appears.
  • Note: I do not need to review the log produced.
  • Now close all other programs apart from OTL as this step will require a reboot.
  • On the OTL main screen, depress the CleanUp button.
  • Say Yes to the prompt and then allow the program to reboot your computer.

The above process will flush old System Restore points and create a new clean one. It should also clean up and remove the vast majority of scanners used and logs created etc.

Any left over merely delete yourself and empty the Recycle Bin.

Now some advice for on-line safety:

Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware:

This is a excellent application and I advise you keep this installed. Check for updates and run a scan at least once per week.

Other installed security software:

Your presently installed security application, McAfee AntiVirus Plus automatically checks for updates and downloads/installs them with every system reboot and or periodically if the machine is left running providing a internet connection is active.

I advise you also run a complete scan with this also once at least once per week.

Erunt:

Emergency Recovery Utility NT, I advice you keep this installed as a means to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.

Myself I would actually create a new back up once per week as this along with System Restore may prove to be invaluable if something unforeseen occurs!

Keep your system updated:

Microsoft releases patches for Windows and other products regularly:

Be careful when opening attachments and downloading files:

Never open email attachments, not even if they are from someone you know. If you need to open them, scan them with your antivirus program before opening.
Never open emails from unknown senders.
Beware of emails that warn about viruses that are spreading, especially those from antivirus vendors. These email addresses can be easily spoofed. Check the antivirus vendor websites to be sure.
Be careful of what you download. Only download files from known sources. Also, avoid cracked programs. If you need a particular program that costs too much for you, try finding free alternatives on Sourceforge or Pricelessware.

Stop malicious scripts:

Windows by default allow scripts (which is VBScript and JavaScript) to run and some of these scripts are malicious. Use Noscript by Symantec or Script Defender by AnalogX to handle these scripts.

Avoid Peer to Peer software:

P2P may be a great way to get lots of seemingly freeware, but it is a great way to get infected as well. There's no way to tell if the file being shared is infected. Worse still, some worms spread via P2P networks, infecting you as well. My advice is avoid these types of software applications.

Install WinPatrol:

WinPatrol alerts you about possible system hijacks, malware attacks and critical changes made to your computer without your permission.

Download it from here.

You can find information about how WinPatrol works here.
