MyWebSearch associated problem

Unread postby 8826markb » April 9th, 2011, 5:36 pm

Hi there -

I apologise in advance if this topic has been answered elsewhere - I have been unable to find the solution needed though

On 1st April (apparently in error
hijackthis logfile 09.04.11.txt
) I installed a 'MyWebSearch' toolbar on my (music production) PC which runs Windows XP Pro

AntiMalwareBytes successfully removed the infection but supplimentary files connecte4d to MyWebSearch are still causing problems at boot up

When I boot up I get an error message stating =

'Unable to find C:\ProgramFiles\MyWebSearch\bar\setups\MyWebSearchInstaller(00accb88).exe'

As a result the PC is very slow & some applications are not responding as they should

I have a HiJack log file which is attached however please note the following:

1 - Using the 'kill process' facility in HiJack the entry relation to the above i.e.

04 HKLM\..\ RunOnce: [My Web Search Installer] "C:\ProgramFiles\MyWebSearch\bar\setups\MyWebSearchInstaller(00accb88).exe" /r

appears time & time again on reboot - My system restore has been disabled since the last infection & so I presume a copy must be stored in my Avast! antivirus or somewhere else - OR even a separate .dll file is re-entering the data after deletion

2. Doing the same with SpyBot I noticed not one but TWO entries for the

04 HKLM\..\ RunOnce: [My Web Search Installer] "C:\ProgramFiles\MyWebSearch\bar\setups\MyWebSearchInstaller(00accb88).exe" /r

contained within the advanced tools 'start up' analysis

Here unticking both has no effect as similalrly both reappear immediately

I would be very grateful if someone would give me an idiot-guide method of removing this headache (I being the idiot defo agreed on this) as soon as possible as I am unable to finish current projects until this issue is resolved

Kind regards !

Mark :-)
