Hi everyone,

My problem is that I keep getting redirected when I'm browsing online. If I search something in google and click on it, it
redirects me to some advertisement instead of the page I wanted. Sometimes I'm redirected randomly when I'm on certain sites, especially last.fm. Also, a lot of random ads pop up. I would greatly appreciate any insight you could give me on this problem.

Hi and welcome to Malware Removal Forum.
My name is Cypher, and I will be helping you with your malware problems.
If you no longer require help i would be grateful if you would let me know.

Before we start please note the following important guidelines.
  • The instructions being given are for YOUR computer and system only!.
Using these instructions on a different computer, can damage that computer and possibly make it inoperable!
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
  • Only post your problem at One help site. Applying fixes from multiple help sites can cause problems.
  • Only reply to this thread do not start another, Please continue responding until I give you the "All Clean"
Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.
  • Please DO NOT install any other software (or hardware) during the cleaning process.
  • Print each set of instructions... if possible...your Internet connection will not be available during some fix processes.
  • Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
  • Note: No Reply Within 3 Days Will Result In Your Topic Being Closed!

Note: If you haven't done so already, please read this topic ALL USERS OF THIS FORUM MUST READ THIS FIRST where the conditions for receiving help here are explained.
Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.
Backup Made Easy - XP
Backup your data - Vista
Backup your data - windows 7

Vista Advice:
  • All applications I ask to be used will require to be run in Administrator mode. IE: Right click on and select Run as Administrator.
  • Your Operating System in use comes with a inbuilt utility called User Access Control(UAC).
  • When prompted by this with anything I ask you to do carry out please select the option Allow.

Hi Cypher,

Thanks for your help! After I did the OTM step and rebooted, my internet connection stopped working(is that supposed to happen temporarily?); So I did a system restore and now it's working again. After re-reading the instructions I noticed that I missed a couple of things: 1. I didn't see the part about not having access to the internet during certain parts so I didn't print/copy the instructions like I was supposed to and 2. I installed a couple of programs (Auslogic Disk Defrag, Auslogic BoostSpeed, & Power Defragmenter). An online tutorial suggested them to help with freeing up space so that I could create a new partition to back my files up on. I apologize if that screwed up anything. What should I do now?

Hi kvyn.
I installed a couple of programs (Auslogic Disk Defrag, Auslogic BoostSpeed, & Power Defragmenter).

First please do not make any further changes to your system unless i tell you to do so.
Including installing new programs as this will complicate things.
Go ahead and follow the rest of my instructions for running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and RSIT.
Post the requested logs in your next reply.

Also, I thought I uninstalled Ad Aware and Spybot but it seems they are still there. I can't seem to uninstall them for some reason. When I try to uninstall Ad-Aware it says, "Ad-Aware Installation Package has stopped working" and when I try to uninstall Spy Bot it says, "C:\Progam Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\unins000.msg is missing".

Hi kvyn.
Ok it seems that last fix failed so we try again.
Most likely because Spybot - Search & Destroy's TeaTimer.exe function has blocked it
We will try to remove Ad-Aware and Spybot - Search & Destroy a different way.

Please download Add Remove Program Cleaner to your desktop.

  • Right-click on addremovecleaner and select " Run as administrator " to run it.
  • Locate Ad-Aware in the menu and click once on it to highlight.
  • Now click on Remove from add/remove programs list.
  • At the prompt click on Yes then Exit.
  • Repeat the process for Spybot - Search & Destroy .
  • Now delete addremovecleaner from the desktop, empty the Recycle Bin and reboot the computer.

Next.

  • Right-click OTM.exe and select " Run as administrator " to run it.
  • Right-click then copy the following code, Do not include the word Code.
    Code: Select all
    :Processes
    TeaTimer.exe

    :Reg
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search]

    :Commands
    [EmptyFlash]
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]

    • Return to OTM, right-click then paste the code into the blank box below Image
    • Next click on the large Image button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.

NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Next.

Re-run - RSIT (Random's System Information Tool)

You should still have this program on your desktop.
  • Right click on RSIT.exe and select "Run As Administrator" to run it. If Windows UAC prompts you, please allow it.
  • Please read the disclaimer... click on Continue.
  • RSIT will start running. When done... ONLY the "C:\RSIT\log.txt"...will be reproduced. ( it will be maximized )
  • Please post ONLY the "log.txt", file contents in your next reply.
(This log can be lengthy, so a separate post may be needed.)

Logs/Information to Post in your Next Reply

  • OTM log.
  • RSIT log.txt.
  • Please give me an update on your computers performance.

I ran ARPC and followed the steps, but both programs are still there, only Ad-aware won't run(but it won't let me delete the file) and Spybot will. Also, I'm concerned that if I run OTM again my internet connection might get messed up like it did last time. Do you know why that happened?

Hi kvyn.
Don't worry about Ad-aware and sptbot for now.
Go ahead with the rest of my instructions, the OTM fix is different now so it shouldn't affect your internet connection.
Post the requested logs in your next reply.

Ok, so I ran OTM and RSIT and the same thing happened; I lost my internet connection. I had to do another system restore to fix it. I'll post the logs, but I'm not sure if they're even relevant now.
