Unread postby jomoo » February 8th, 2011, 6:58 am

Please can someone help me. I have windows xp home computer. No AV is now installed apart from malware bytes. and super spyware.

It seems to be some kind of replication hotkey trojan. It disables installation of all AV. Malware bytes picks it up and deletes it but it appears again on reboot when you try and install av. Sometimes it crashes the reboot so you cannot clean it properly.

It seems to change the IP address back to my computers IP when trying to connect to a av software server to download.
I did turn off system restore to try and stop it self replicating but no luck. I have had trojan fake av also which was deleted but not sure if it has been totally wiped out.

Malware Bytes seems to pick it up and delete it as per log: but it comes back! still cannot install av. :-(

Hi and welcome to the MR forums. :)

I'm melboy and I am going to try to help you with your problem. Please take note of the following:

  1. I will be working on your Malware issues this may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
  2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
  4. Please refrain from making any further changes to your computer (Install/Uninstall programs, delete files, edit the registry, etc...)
  5. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.
  6. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  7. DO NOT attach logs unless requested to. Please copy/paste all requested logs into your replies.
  8. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
  9. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

NOTE: Please take time to read the Malware Removal Forum Guidelines and Rules where the conditions for receiving help at this forum are explained.

IMPORTANT: Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.

No Reply Within 3 Days Will Result In Your Topic Being Closed!! If you need more time, please inform me.

Thank you soooooo much for your help :-)
I did as you said and clicked on fix on hijack this. Once The items I ticked were fixed however I could not do anything else e.g. click start or close the window or even trying pressing ctrl alt delete didnt do anything so I had to force the computer to reboot.

I managed to get the following files. Hope I have zipped it correctly :-s.

Before I read your message I uninstalled reg cure, nokia pc suite and nokia ov player and other nokia compenents, regcure, rarzilla and superantispyware. I hope this has not affected things.

Thanks again.

Hi Joanna

From my welcome speech:
7. DO NOT attach logs unless requested to. Please copy/paste all requested logs into your replies.

This site is primarily a teaching & training facility for trainees to learn malware removal. The logs need to be posted so that trainees can view the logs for themselves easily and learn the removal techniques from qualified and experienced helpers like myself. Other helpers may also analyze the logs when researching a particular infection, for further information that may help in other cases.
In you need to post the logs in separate posts to due to the size, please do so.

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix: Bleeping Computer ComboFix Tutorial

  • You must download it to and run it from your Desktop

For instructions on how to disable your security programs, please see this topic:
How to disable your security applications
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply
  • Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

A word of warning: This tool is not for everyday use. ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper
Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own.

so sorry! total blond moment!.

Should I copy and paste what I attached now?

I am running combifix at the moment it has got to the blue screen where it says scanning for infected files.... this typically doesnt take more than ten minutes but for badly infected machines it may easily be double.

09:50
It has been 40 minutes :-( and nothing has happened further e.g. the 50 steps on the blue screen.

Do I just leave it until something happens or is my computer stopping the scan do you think?

It did say at the start not enough main memory for sort .... it think. I know I am extremely low on disk space.

It managed to install the system restore point fine though and also the microsoft recovery console.

Not sure whether to leave it?

Update:

Its bee 50 mins and now I have a black screen :-s

thank you

Joanna

Update 10:00 forced the computer to reboot after 10 mins of black screen as the processing light was not flickering and the creen had no cursor. It seems to have rebooted fine.

Not going to touch it agian until further advice. Thanks

Joanna

Hi Joanna

low on disk space

Your C: drive is 93 GB in total with only 2.8 GB free.
The partition with the system needs at least 15% Free Space, or it will bog down and run very slowly.

Please try to uninstall some software you do not need and/or move any documents/files/pictures etc to a form of removable media. (CD, DVD, USB flash drive etc)

  • Go to Start > My Computer
  • Right-click on the hard-drive letter for the system, (usually C: )
  • Click Properties
  • Under the General tab Uncheck the box labeled "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching"
  • Click Apply
  • If it asks whether to apply to all files and folders, answer Yes.
  • You may have to wait while it resets the file attributes.

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
