Hi okigal,
---------------------------------------------
Run CKScanner
Download CKScanner from HERE
Important - Save it to your desktop.
Right-Click CKScanner.exe, choose Run as administrator and click Search For Files.
After a couple minutes or less, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File.
A message box will verify the file saved.
Double-click the CKFiles.txt icon on your desktop, give permission if asked, and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.
--------------------------------------------
TDSSKiller - Rootkit Removal Tool
Please download the TDSSKiller.exe by Kaspersky... save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!
  1. Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista - W7 users: Right-click and select "Run As Administrator".
If TDSSKiller does not run... rename it. Right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. ektfhtw.com).
If you don't see file extensions, please see: How to change the file extension.
  2. Click the Start Scan button. Do not use the computer during the scan!
  3. If the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.
  4. If malicious objects are found, they will show in the "Scan results - Select action for found objects" and offer 3 options.
    • Ensure Cure (default) is selected... then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.
    • If Cure is not offered as an option, choose Skip.
  5. A log file named TDSSKiller_version_dd.mm.yyyy_hh.mm.ss_log.txt will be created and saved to main folder of the C: drive.
  6. Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.
If, for some reason, you can't locate the text file to paste into your reply, just tell me, but DO NOT run the program a second time.

So we are looking for the log from CKScanner and the log from TDSSKiller. Use separate replies if you prefer.

Also please tell me if your machine connects to the Internet through a router, whether there are any other machines connected to the same router, and whether they are also having redirects.

PC connects through a wireless router which is utilized by this desktop, laptop, itouch, Tivo. Laptop also redirects.

Results as follows:

CKScanner - Additional Security Risks - These are not necessarily bad
scanner sequence 3.MN.11

okigal,
It looks to me as if your Router has been hacked.
This does not necessarily have anything to do with an infection on your PC.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You need to look at your Router setup first.
Go into the Router settings as if you were just setting it up for the first time.
This time, look to see if any strange addresses have been added. (I would bet on it.)
Once you are satisfied that all the addresses and gateway are correct, change the password for the Router Administrator Account if it is still the default value.
The default values are published here : http://www.phenoelit-us.org/dpl/dpl.html
Using the default password allows remote control of your router to alter the settings.

You may need tech help from your Internet Service Provider to be sure the addresses you set are correct.
Is this something you can do?

I now cannot even go in to the router setup or run the setup wizard via installation cd. I get "runtime error 53".
"You may need tech help from your Internet Service Provider to be sure the addresses you set are correct"... which addresses are you referring to? MAC? What is and where do I find the gateway address?

okigal,
You will need to determine the maker and model number of the Router.
Then if possible, locate the instructions that came with it.

You should be able to plug the name and Model into Google and get some information on it,
For example, for mine, I would type "Netgear RP614 router"
If you can find the instruction manual, that's easier.
The default username and password that comes with each router model are published here: http://www.phenoelit-us.org/dpl/dpl.html
Look up the username and default password for your router model and write them down.

To change the settings on your router you will need to find its home address
Go to the Start Orb.
Type cmd in the Start Search box.
In the black DOS box that pops up, type ipconfig at the cursor and hit <Enter>

Write down the numbers and dots showing for the Default Gateway
My IP address shows 192.168.0.7
My Default gateway shows 192.168.0.1 <=== Yours will likely be slightly different.
If you open Firefox or Internet Explorer and type the Default Gateway number into the address box at the top, it will come up on the website you need for the instructions and settings for YOUR router.
It will ask for a username and password. If you never changed them, you will use the name and password that you wrote down earlier.

Two things need to be done when you bring up the website:
  • You need to look at the IP addresses showing in the settings, call your Internet Company, ask for Tech Support for router settings, and determine which IP addresses are correct and which need to be removed.
If you see an extra one that shows 85.255.xx.xx for example, that is a bad one and needs to be removed. Tech support will tell you which ones are correct and which ones are bad.
  • Next, you need to change your password. (The one you used to get into the website). You use that same set of screens to change the password.
Not having changed the password when you first got the router is what allowed criminals to hack your router and enter their own number(s).
I can't tell you every keystroke to use, because each router and internet provider has a different group of settings. But, there are only a few things to do, and you should be able to do it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Also, your desktop PC itself has not been getting automatic updates.
Go to Start, Control Panel, System and Maintenance. Under Windows Update, click Turn automatic updating ON.

Since this Computer has been cleared of infection, and the issue appears to be a Router hack, the poster will be able to correct the problem with the help of the Internet Provider.
This thread will be closed.
