What do you mean by "we"?
It's belong to school?

Hi and thank you for your respond xixo_12,

first: by "WE" I mean Me and very few times my husband, I use this computer at home and mostly for my studies and my kids projects but is not a public share computer, sorry for not being more specific.

Second: I used to use Lime wire but since it was closed due to their law issues frost wire was recommended to me, is not important so I got rid of it, so its uninstalled now! :)

Re: Unable to update and computer running slow:MyWebSearch/

Unread postby xixo_12 » December 27th, 2010, 7:22 am

Hi,
Good enough on explanation.

First,
Remove programs.
Please Click on Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
Remove the listed program(s) by clicking Remove
Ad-Aware
Ad-Aware
Spybot - Search & Destroy

If some programs listed above are not in present, please do not panic and proceed to the next step.

Next,
Reboot into the usual account.

Next,
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware here and save to the desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to:
    Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    Image
  • Refer to above image and then click Remove Selected to proceed.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the log back into your next reply
Note:
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
  • Or via the Logs tab when Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is started.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

What you need to post
Checklist.
  • Content of MBAM log

Hi,
No worries ;)
We have a lot of backup plan :D

First,
system restore points.
  • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
  • Select Create a restore point > Click Next > Put the description as you wish > Click Create.
  • Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
  • choose your root drive ( normally C: ) and click Ok.
  • after it calculates how much space you will save it will open up a new window
  • Select the More options tab at the top of the window
  • Choose the option to clean up system restore and click yes.
  • Go back to the Disk Cleanup tab.
  • Put a checkmark in all - except compress old files (leave this unchecked).
  • Click Ok then click Yes
This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created and clean unneeded files

Next,
RSIT by random/random.
Please download from HERE and save to the desktop.
  • Double-click on RSIT.exe to run the tool.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it finishes, two logs will open.
    • log.txt will be opened maximized
    • info.txt will be opened minimized
  • Please post the contents of both logs in your next post.
***You can find manually the log at C:\rsit

What you need to post
Checklist.
  • Content of log.txt and info.txt (Find both in c:\rsit)

Is good you are the expert!!!! !!!!! I don't know if this is important but I forgot to mention that my cd drive was not working out of the blue...and start making noises....(this reminds me that a year ago I had a problem with an infection...) this makes me realize the importance of not to use any of the p2p programs....I guess this is one of the many reasons my pc is giving me troubles.... ...anyway....

Here is the log of the programs....this time I make sure I read twice!!!!

Ps: thank you so much for all your time and your help!

Hi,
Let's proceed.
Cd drive issue seem like hardware failure to me. Let's keep that matter to solve later.
You're welcome mother :D

First,
Fix entries.
  • Run the HiJack This.
  • Click on Do a system scan only button.
  • Search the entries as below and tick at the small box.
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:6522
  • Close any other program and leave HiJackThis program alone.
  • Click Fix checked.

Next,
OTM by Old Timer.
Please download from HERE and save to the desktop.
  • Double-click on OTM.exe.
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below.
    :processes
    :reg
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\services\sharedaccess\parameters\firewallpolicy\standardprofile\authorizedapplications\list]
    "C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe"=-
    "C:\Program Files\FrostWire\FrostWire.exe"=-
    :files
    C:\WINDOWS\tasks\Ad-Aware Update (Weekly).job
    C:\Program Files\LimeWire
    C:\Program Files\FrostWire
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\FrostWire
    :commands
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
    [reboot]
  • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved window (under the yellow bar, Code box into OTMoveIt3 (1).) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTM.

Note:
  • If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process.
  • If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
  • In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Next,
CKScanner.
Please download from HERE and save to the desktop.
  • Double click on CKScanner.exe to run it and click Search For Files.
  • After a very short time, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File.
  • A message box will verify the file saved.
  • Double-click the CKFiles.txt icon on your desktop and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.

Next,
Discussion
Please give me an update about your system. Is it running better now?

What you need to post
Checklist.
  • Content of OTM log
  • Content of CKFiles.txt
