Potential Virus/Malware issue

Unread postby fanofdepp » December 20th, 2010, 10:26 pm

Approximately 2 months ago, I was browsing online, clicked on a link that the anti-virus program AVG said was safe, I was routed to a different page that stated I had a virus. I turned off the computer at that point. Shortly after I noticed connection issues. I constantly got a screen saying Your connection has been lost click to diagnose the problem. Approximately one month ago the connection was permanently lost. I could not go online. Contacted the Internet provider, they sent out a tech. I replaced my modem and he put in a brand new connection outside. While he was here the computer still said there were connection issues. He noticed the home page had been changed, and when he looked up the address, it said it was a virus. Also I am on a cable internet connection and the computer was set to wireless internet, which the Cable Tech had a hard time changing it back to the land line. He had to go into the black screen to do this. This is a new computer. Purchased in July of this year. I am the only one on this computer. I have tried to resolve this issue with AVG, but was unsucessful. Any help you can give would be appreciated. I am a novice in this area.

Please familiarize yourself with the forum rules: >Forum Posting Rules - Please Read<

I see from your HJT log that you're using a 64 bit operating system.

Unfortunately, the tools we use to analyze and remove infections do not work properly on a 64 bit operating system, and their results cannot be relied upon. Because of this, it is almost impossible for us to correctly diagnose problems, and the fixes we might offer could potentially do as much damage to your computer as any infection you might have.

Due to the above stated reasons, we do not at this time offer support for 64 bit operating systems. We are sorry that we are currently unable to assist you.

This topic is now closed.
