Welcome to the Forums.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant.
Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear.
Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
So lets do this to the end!

  • Save and quit any work your doing before beginning the fix.
  • All hijackthis logs I ask for should be done in normal mode ( not safe mode)
  • These logs should be done last after you have followed my instructions in the previous post.
  • DO NOT be installing new programs while we are fixing this machine.
  • Be sure to use the subscribe button to receive notification by Email that you have been replied to.
If I do not hear from you in 3 days from my last post this topic will be closed. You will need to start another.

Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

RUN HJT

HJT
Run hijackthis and choose scan only and place a check by the following lines if present.
Close all other windows and browsers except HJT before clicking on Fix Checked

O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\RunOnce: [ShowDeskFix] regsvr32 /s /n /i:u shell32 (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\RunOnce: [ShowDeskFix] regsvr32 /s /n /i:u shell32 (User 'NETWORK SERVICE')

Close that.

Question on this line?
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WormBlaster] C:\Documents and Settings\kkarizz\Desktop\WormBlaster-2\WormBlaster.exe /s
Did you download this program ? I can not find enough information to make a good assesment of it. Tell me what you can about this file /program.

_____________________________________________
  • Download Random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

______________________________
Now tell me what file you are trying to delete and that your not trying to delete the recycle bin itself.

_________________________
In your next reply I would like to see:
  • The report from RSIT
  • The info on that file I asked you about (wormblaster.exe)
  • What file are you trying to delete?

about Wormblaster

It's a downloaded application of a friend of mine. He told me to have it installed in my laptop for further use in case I wanna scan my laptop. Other info about, i don't have/know of. Should I remove it from my system? Please advise me what to do.

--------------------------------------
File, I want to delete

I was afraid that my laptop is infected with some sort of virus that I know nothing of. I believe it's the Recycler folder? not the Recycle Bin actually but I was trying to delete the recycler folder that keeps on multiplying itself whenever i open some of my files. Including the external hard drive I have. I think I've got it from my brother's laptop when I copied some movies from his laptop. After copying such, I've noticed this folder in my laptop. Some of my friend said that it is a virus. Please help me on this. Thanks.

Re: help...recycler folder..

Unread postby Bob4 » November 30th, 2010, 7:47 am

On the subject of that wormblaster. Not knowing what it is or really where it came from is enough for me to get rid of it.

I was trying to delete the recycler folder that keeps on multiplying itself whenever i open some of my files.

Is it truly multiplying? As in there are more than 1 of the same folder in c:/ ? Your logs show me there is only 1.
There will be one on each drive if you have another drive.

it keeps on prompting "file is still in use"..something like that

The recycler folder needs to be on your machine. Windows is probably recreating it if your deleting it.
The file inside that folder holds information and files that have been deleted. There will always be a file with a long number in this folder.

That is in use during that session. So deleting it is next to impossible at that point..
The recycle bin itself is basically a shortcut to this folder. Emptying the recycle bin should be all you need to do.
Any malware in the recycle bin is safe there until it's deleted.

Let's get an online scan that will look into this folder also.

Check "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours".
  • Recycle Bin
Make sure there is nothing that you may want in the recycle bin. If there is move it somewhere safe. You may want to do this.
Under system uncheck Empty recycle bin

Now run the program by clicking on Run Cleaner

( Do not use the Registry function to clean anything with this program. Having anything auto clean your regisrty is risky).

Kaspersky Online Scanner.
Vista - W7 users: You will need to to right-click on the IE or FF icons on the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select "Run as Administrator" from the context menu.

Please go to Kaspersky Online Virus Scanner © Kaspersky Lab to perform an online antivirus scan.
  1. Read the "Advantages - Requirements and Limitations" then press... the ACCEPT...button.
The latest program and definition files will be downloaded. It takes time, please be patient, let it finish.
  2. Once the files have been downloaded, click on the SETTINGS...button.
In the scan settings make sure the following are selected:
    • Detect malicious programs of the following categories:
      Viruses, Worms, Trojan Horses, Rootkits
Spyware, Adware, Dialers and other potentially dangerous programs
    • Scan compound files (doesn't apply to the File scan area):
      Archives
      Mail databases
By default the above items should already be checked.
    • Click the SAVE...button, if you made any changes.
  3. Now under the Scan section on the left:
      Select My Computer
The program will start scanning your system. This takes a while, be patient... let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  4. Save the scan results as a Text file ... save it to your desktop.
  5. Copy and paste the saved scan results file in your next reply.

Re: help...recycler folder..

Unread postby kkarlz » December 1st, 2010, 6:29 am

On the subject of that wormblaster. Not knowing what it is or really where it came from is enough for me to get rid of it.

I already deleted the folder. Did not empty the recycle bin yet, will be waiting for your next instruction...

There will be one on each drive if you have another drive.

I think this explains why I have the recycler folder on Drive D and on my external hard drive. With your explanation re the matter, it seems that it is not harmful then. I trust you and HJT masters.

Now run the program by clicking on Run Cleaner

I already perform such.

Now my problem is the Kaspersky Online Scanner.
I've been trying to perform such operation on the link you have provided for me but after some attempts it prompts me that the license has expired and that I have to perform it on the Kaspersky Site...But still I wasn't able to perform. My worry is that my three days might expire and my post might be closed if I will still not refer to you my problem in running the online scan. So i thought of letting you know then without posting the HJT logfile first since the online scan is not yet performed. Please do advise what to do next in order to resolve this matter. Thanks.
