Please help. I'm having problems with spy axe and spy trooper trying to download itself. I had spyaxe installed somehow, and got it removed. I'm still havinng popups and the little Yellow triangle with the ! point saying my computer is infected with spyware. I have run spy sweeper, lavasoft adware se, spybot, search & destroy, and the Ewido free trial, and this morning a hijack this log.

I also forgot to mention that my norton antivirus willno longer run auto protect.

You may want to print this out or save it to a Notepad file on your desktop, as you will not have Internet access in Safe mode.
This is fairly long due to a difficult infection, and your persistence is needed to be successful.

Set Your Computer to Show All Files
Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. In addition, if you have Windows XP, go to Start, Search. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

Disable SpySweeper
- Open it, Click Options over on the left, then Program options
- Uncheck load at windows startup.
- Over to the left, Click shields and Uncheck all there.
- Uncheck home page shield.
- Uncheck automatically restore default without notification.

Please Download SpyAxeFix.exe © noahdfear.
Save it to your desktop. Close all other programs and windows. Double click SpyAxeFix.exe, then click Start to extract the tool to it's own folder.

Download SmitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Download and install CCleaner from here.
Don't run CCleaner yet.

Start Your Computer in Safe Mode.
Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly as the machine boots, until a menu shows up. Choose Safe Mode from the list. In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Additional Info is here: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm

Run CCleaner.
( Do not use the Issues block )
Click on the Options block on the left. Select Advanced.
Uncheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours".
Click on the Cleaner block on the left. Choose the Windows tab.
Check everything Except Cookies, Autocomplete Form History, and the Advanced part of the Menu.
Click the Run Cleaner button. This process could take a while.
When CCleaner shows how much has been removed, cleaning is finished. Click Exit.

Run Ewido Scan
Close all open windows/programs/folders. Have Nothing else open while ewido performs its scan!.
It's extremely important not to open any windows while the scan is in progress.
Now Run Ewido
* Click on scanner
* Click on Settings
* Under "How to scan" all boxes should be selected
* Under "Possibly unwanted software" all boxes should be selected
* Under "What to scan" select scan every file
* Click OK
* Click on Complete system scan
* Let the program scan the machine
* If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification.
* Let it fix whatever it finds
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report.
* Click Save report
* Save the report to your desktop
* Exit ewido
When you compose your reply, paste the contents of the report into it..

Open the SmitRem folder and double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
The tool will create a log named Smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C:\ or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with the others requested in your next reply.

File Deletion.
In Windows Explorer, navigate to these files. Use Find (F3) or Start, Search if the folder is not shown; then Delete these files, if present:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mssearchnet.exe
C:\Windows\System32\hp4CAF.tmp

<== you can use ld*.tmp in the search. delete any file that matches.

ALCXMNTR.EXE

If you have any problem deleting a file, right click the file and check Properties to see if it's read-only. Uncheck the read-only box, click Apply and OK. Then retry Delete.
If a message pops up saying "File in use", or something like that, hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and look under the Processes tab. If the filename is in there, click End Process, then retry Delete.
Note the name and location of any file you cannot delete.

Open the SpyAxeFix folder and double click the SpyAxeFix.bat to start the tool.
At one point when the tool runs, your taskbar will disappear, and your computer will restart when the tool completes.
A text file will be created in the SpyAxeFix folder. Post the contents of it in your next reply.

Right-click a space on your desktop, choose Properties, Customize, Web tab. Uncheck Security Info if present.

If Your machine did not reboot while running SpyAxeFix.bat then ReBoot your machine to Normal Mode now to get online.

Run an Online scan.
Go tohttp://www.trendmicro.com and click Personal. Under Trend Micro Housecall (upper right) Click Scan now.
Click Scan Now It's Free. Choose your location, then Start Free Scan Now. Select Complete Scan. If it asks about installing an ActiveX control, allow it.
It'll take a few minutes to download, especially with a dialup connection, so be patient.
Check to Clean all drives and Scan.
When it completes, copy the full name of any virus, trojan, or spyware that cannot be cleaned or deleted and post them along with your next log.

Post a New HJT Log
Reboot your computer. Start HijackThis. Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply.

I ran all the stuff you told me to. the only problem i encountered was whe i ran the SmitRem it went to the window that says i am in safe mode and the disk clean didn't appear to run. here are all the log files you requested.

About the program file named tgcmd.exe; It involves these two lines:
The running process: C:\Program Files\support.com\bin\tgcmd.exe
And the registry entry that starts it up : O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tgcmd] "C:\Program Files\support.com\bin\tgcmd.exe" /server
From CastleCops Processes database-
This part ensures the software is installed correctly (similar to an installation wizard) as reported by Cox. Regarded as spyware by some : http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_t.htm
as it has the ability to retrieve user information. Whether it does so depends upon the provider.
"tgcmdprovidersbc" is for SBC Yahoo DSL. One Toshiba user reports problems with hibernate on his laptop if disabled - hence the "Uncertain" recommendation

I would suggest removing it from startup, but not erasing the file. It can be replaced in startup if necessary.

You may want to print this out, or save it as a Notepad document on your Desktop, since you won't have Internet access in Safe Mode.

Set Your Computer to Show All Files
Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. In addition, if you have Windows XP, go to Start, Search. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

Remove log items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis. If the opening screen shows, choose None of the above, just start the program.
Click Scan. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:

Start Your Computer in Safe Mode.

Folder Deletion.
In Windows Explorer, Find and Delete these folder(s), if present:
C:\Program Files\360Share\
Note any folder you cannot delete.
You may have to delete all the underlying files and folders before a target folder can be deleted.
If you have any problem deleting a file, right click the file and check Properties to see if it's read-only. Uncheck the read-only box, click Apply and OK. Then retry Delete.
If a message pops up saying "File in use", or something like that, hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and look under the Processes tab. If the filename is in there, click End Process, then retry delete.
Note the name and location of any file you cannot delete.

Post a New HJT Log
Reboot your computer. Start HijackThis. Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply.

Your log looks good. Nice work.
It does look as if the last HJT log was run from Safe Mode.

If it's OK but slow, we may have to stop the real-time monitoring portion of ewido and just use it as a good scanner so it doesn't slow down your regular AV. Otherwise leave it as is.

Disable WinXP System Restore
Disable your System Restore to remove malware files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing them. The only way to erase these files is to temporarily disable System Restore. You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.
- Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
- On the System Restore tab, put a Check mark in the Turn Off System Restore check box.
- Click OK twice, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.
If you are not prompted to reboot, do it on your own.

After the Reboot,
Enable WinXP System Restore
- Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
- On the System Restore tab, Clear the Check mark beside the Turn Off System Restore check box.
- Click OK twice, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.
The Disable/Re-enable System Restore sequence is not to be done regularly, but only once after the removal of malware.

Download and Install a HOSTS File
A Hosts file is a plain text file which prevents your computer from connecting to malware and spyware sites by redirecting the connection request to 127.0.0.1, which is your local address. If you use a proxy server, or if you are on AOL, be sure to read the special instructions.

yes, askey everything is looking great. thanks for all yor help. do i need to keep all the programs running or can i just keep, winpatrol, spyware blaster and my norton running.

SpywareBlaster doesn't actually "run", except once each time you enable protections. It is a program that changes a bunch of safety settings in your system. I'd run it every couple weeks from the icon to check for updates, then click enable all protections.

Winpatrol should run all the time in the system tray. Right click the dog to look at stuff. Unless you are installing or downloading something on purpose, if you are online, and Winpatrol asks to change something, always say NO. It will flag any system change, and you have to decide if the change is intentional.

Norton AV should run all the time (they call it autoprotect).

You can visit Start, Control Panel, Security Center and verify that you have your Firewall "ON".

The HOSTS file is just a repository of settings that the PC uses. Your system "reads" the HOSTS file when you ask to go to a website. It doesn't "run" in the usual sense, as there is no continuous process using up computer time or memory. The file just needs to be there whenever the machine needs it for reference.

Ewido is a terrific trojan scanner, but doesn't need to run all the time.
