Re: Recent Attack - help please

Unread postby Cypher » September 26th, 2010, 7:27 am

Hi and welcome to Malware Removal Forum.
My name is Cypher, and I will be helping you with your malware problems.
If you no longer require help i would be grateful if you would let me know.

Before we start please note the following important guidelines.
  • The instructions being given are for YOUR computer and system only!.
Using these instructions on a different computer, can damage that computer and possibly make it inoperable!
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
  • Only post your problem at One help site. Applying fixes from multiple help sites can cause problems.
  • Only reply to this thread do not start another, Please continue responding until I give you the "All Clean"
Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.
  • Please DO NOT install any other software (or hardware) during the cleaning process.
  • Print each set of instructions... if possible...your Internet connection will not be available during some fix processes.
  • Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
  • Note: No Reply Within 3 Days Will Result In Your Topic Being Closed!

Note: If you haven't done so already, please read this topic ALL USERS OF THIS FORUM MUST READ THIS FIRST where the conditions for receiving help here are explained.
Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.

Please post an Uninstall list.

  • Open HijackThis.
  • Click on the Open the Misc Tools section button.
  • Look under System tools.
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
  • Click on the Save list... button.
  • It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
  • Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply.

Thank you Cypher-

After I posted this hijackthis log, I realized my Spybot was old. I installed updates and ran it again. It found TrojanC-02 (5 entries) and fixed them. This did not solve the problem. When I try to google something and click the site I want to visit, I get directed to a site that asks me to verify by typing 2 verification words to move on. (usually called Valid Click)
Here is the updated hijackthis log:
I will run the Uninstall list and post that shortly.

Hi!
I was posting when your response came:
It is primarily a personal computer, but I sometimes dial in VPN to my work on it.

I am going to try google now and see if there is an difference.

On Firefox, I am still getting re-directed.

I did not get directed to "doubleClick", but this time to a travel group.

If I go directly to my bookmarked sites - no problems.

Just when I try to go through google.

Should do another re-start of my computer?

I should add- the google font looks normal again in the "google search" box you click when searching:
It looked different/smaller before.

Hi jdlaap.
It is primarily a personal computer, but I sometimes dial in VPN to my work on it.

I have examined your log & I believe this to be a computer used for business, be it personal or corporate.

If I could point you in the direction of the rules, which state under Posting for help for business machines
This forum was set up specifically to help home users, our volunteer helpers choose not to work on machines used for other purposes
On this forum the Administrators are the sole arbiters of what constitutes Home use.
We reserve the right to close any topic that in our opinion is from a computer used for other purposes.
All decisions are final, and are not open to discussion or negotiation.

If this is indeed a business computer:

  • If it is a corporate computer, it is suggested that you take this issue to your IT department.
  • If this is a personal computer used for business (personal or corporate), it is suggested that you take this issue to your IT department, or your local PC repair store.

This topic will now be closed. I am sorry I could not have been of further assistance.

Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you Cypher - I appreciate the help you have given.

The IT department at our company will only help if it is their computer. Since this is my personal computer I will look for a PC repair store.

I am grateful for your time.
