Can't install Malwarebytes

Unread postby leafstorm07 » September 11th, 2010, 9:11 am

Hello Admins and other staff members.

I don't know what kind of virus is this but the symptoms are:
- slowed computer
- corrupted anti-malware installers

I don't know where I got this virus but I think the Adobe updater is the root of all of this mess in my notebook. I'm not sure.

I'll be waiting for your replies, Sir. I'll check this thread everyday and I'll wait patiently for your replies because I want to fix this without reformatting my notebook.
Thank you so much...

Hi leafstorm07,
-----------------------------------------------------------
You have two antivirus programs on your PC at the same time. They will conflict with each other and cause system instability and/or improper AntiVirus protection.
Choose to keep just one: either the Avast or McAfee Antivirus, and Uninstall the other.
From Start, Control Panel, click on Uninstall a program under the Programs heading.
Right click the Entry you want to remove, choose Uninstall/Change, and give permission to Continue.
Also Uninstall Uniblu Registry Booster.
Registry Optimizing and Registry Cleaning programs will not help your machine if they are perfect, and may ruin your machine if they are not.
-----------------------------------------------------------
ReBoot Your Machine, and Post a New HiJackThis Log
Start HijackThis (double-click in XP, or right-click and "Run as administrator" in Vista/Win7)
Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl +A), copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the log contents into a reply.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Retrieve the List of Installed programs Using HJT
Open HijackThis, click Open The Misc Tools Section. Then scroll down the list if you need to, click Open Uninstall Manager and Save List...
The List of installed programs will automatically be saved as uninstall_list.txt in your HiJackThis folder.
In addition, the list opens in Notepad so you can also save as another name in another location if you wish.
Please paste the contents into your next reply.

Thank you so much askey. I already uninstalled the Uniblue Registry Booster and McAffee Site Advisor. But I can't seem to find the McAffee anti-virus in the Uninstall lists in the Control Panel. I don't even remember that I installed that anti-virus in my notebook. But when I go visit the Program Files folder, the McAffee VirusScan is still there. Is that normal? I will post the logs after you have replied. Thank you so much, sir. And I apologize for being a noob about this stuff. :'(

-----------------------------------------------------------
Run The McAfee Removal Tool MCPR.EXE
1. Download the removal tool from:
http://download.mcafee.com/products/lic ... s/MCPR.exe
2. Click Save and save the file to a folder on your computer.
3. Navigate to the folder where the file was saved.
4. Right click MCPR.EXE and choose "Run as administrator"
Your McAfee product will be fully removed when the system is restarted.
-----------------------------------------------------------
REBOOT(RESTART) Your Machine

Then you can proceed.

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the help.
I figured out what's wrong. It's with my router. I tried to connect the internet connection directly and the installation worked. Malwarebytes cleaned two infections but I think they can't cause major problems.

Thank you so much and more power to this forum site.

Leafstorm07,
If and when you re-install your router or get a new one, be CERTAIN that you change the password to the Router's Admin account after you set it up..
The default passwords that come with the router's administrative account are published on the internet, and criminals try (and do) gain remote access to routers that still retain the default password.

Good luck,
