Alureon H removal

Unread postby magic » June 8th, 2010, 5:47 pm

We hope that you can help us. We have tried to remove the above virus which we first discovered when we noticed with google redirects. Looking in various forums we think we have part removed the virus with TDSS killer. However when we run Hitman pro it still shows an issue with RDPENCDD.sys, which it is not removing.

Below is the Hijackthis file. We have noticed that you usually require uninstall list, MGADiag, and CKS files, which we have if needed, however GMER does not complete its scan.

Thanks again and we look forward to hearing back.

Hello magic... welcome to the forum.
My name is Airscape and I'll be helping you with your malware issues.
The logs can take a while to research. Please be patient with me.

Take note of the following before we begin:
  • Post to this thread only and please stick to it until you are given an All Clean. Absence of symptoms does not mean that your computer is clean.
  • The instructions I give are for This computer only and should not be used on any other pc.
  • Do NOT run any tools/scans unless I instruct you to.
  • Try not to install/uninstall any programs while we work. This will add extra time researching your logs.
  • If you have found assistance elsewhere and no longer require our help, please say so, and this topic will be closed.
  • If you have any problems, please stop and ask before proceeding with any fixes.
  • ALL USERS OF THIS FORUM MUST READ THIS FIRST

Note: As I'm still in training here at MRU everything I post must be checked by an expert first. So there may be a slight delay in between posts.

Important:
Please be aware that removing Malware is a hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

In light of this it would be wise for you to back up any important files and folders that you don't want to lose before we start.

sorry for the delay.

we have part removed the virus with TDSS killer
We have noticed that you usually require uninstall list, MGADiag, and CKS files, which we have if needed, however GMER does not complete its scan.

It's important you post the TDSSKiller log in your next reply, it should be created on your C: drive named something like TDSSKiller 2.1.1 Jun 01 2010 02:40:02

I notice you have Norman and Norton 360 installed, which one do you use now for security, which is active/has a valid subscription etc?

Note: you will need to be on an administrator account for this fix. You will need to then right-click on all tools below (except security check) and select "run as administrator".

Security Application Check
  • Please download SecurityCheck.exe by screen317 from Here or Here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt
  • Please post the contents of that document in your next reply.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Random's System Information Tool (RSIT)
  • Please download RSIT by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on RSIT.exe and select Run as Administrator to run it.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open.
  • Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)
Note: both logs can be found in the C:\rsit folder if you lose them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Gmer
Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here & save it to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time protection so your security program's will not conflict with Gmer.
  • Right click the .exe file and select Run as Administrator to run it. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. UNCHECK the following ...
    Image
    Click the image to enlarge it
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt"
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in reply
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOTKIT" entries

Do not run any programs while Gmer is running.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Logs/information to post in next reply:
  • checkup.txt
  • RSIT logs (log.txt and info.txt)
  • GMER log
  • How is the pc running?
GMER log:
We have tried running this log however it either stops and cancels itself OR it causes an error on the computer and the computer has to restart itself.
It did create a "fails" log which is:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3
Locale ID: 2057
Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: f4
BCP1: 00000003
BCP2: 87F247D8
BCP3: 87F24924
BCP4: 81A68710
OS Version: 6_0_6002
Service Pack: 2_0
Product: 768_1
Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini060810-03.dmp
C:\Users\owner\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-102445-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\owner\AppData\Local\Temp\WER77E.tmp.version.txt
The pc is running ok however whenever the Hitman Pro runs it picks up the RDPENCDD.sys as malware.
We look forward to you next post and hopefully we'll be able to sort it out.
With regards to Antivirus software, the Norton 360 is out of date and we are currently using the Norman software.
Hi,
Is the pc used for business purposes? (home business/work)
Remove P2P programs
IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Person to Person) File Sharing Programs on your computer.
LimeWire 5.3.6
Please read the Malware Removal Forum P2P Policy
Note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected.
The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.
We see no purpose in cleaning your machine if you use P2P programs, as it is pretty much certain that if you continue to use them, then you will get infected again.
Note: If you choose not to remove the P2P programs, please say so in your next post, and this topic will be closed.
Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features > Right-click on the programs above (in red) and click uninstall.
While there also Remove Norton 360
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Norton Removal tool
Please download Norton_Removal_Tool.exe and save it to the desktop.
Right click on Norton_Removal_Tool.exe and select Run as Admin to run it.
Follow the prompts to remove the product, then reboot your computer.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware you have installed.
Click the Logs tab.
Click the one at the bottom and click open to open it in Notepad.
Post the contents of the log into your next reply.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Gmer
Please run Gmer again, it's important we get a log before proceeding with anything else.
Note: if it fails to run again, try running it in Safe Mode:

Thanks for your continued help.

We have now removed Limewire and Norton 360 and have used the Norton Removal Tool.

Also the Norman Product Manager pop up box says that it could not complete the installation due to an unexpected error and tells us to restart.

The pc is running ok however whenever the Hitman Pro runs it picks up the RDPENCDD.sys as malware.

Below are the logs as requested:

Hi magic,

Please answer my question regarding whether this pc is used for business purposes?

ComboFix
Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe ---- use Internet Explorer for this link -> right click and select "save target as"

**IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop**

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
    A guide to do this can be found here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console
Image
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:
Image

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the contents of C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may cause to your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Extra ComboFix log
I would also like to see a list of installed programs, so please do this:
Click Start > Run then copy/paste the following single-line command into the Run box and click OK:
C:\Qoobox\Add-Remove Programs.txt
A text file should open. Post the contents of that file in your next reply.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Logs/information to post in next reply:
  • C:\ComboFix.txt
  • C:\Qoobox\Add-Remove Programs.txt
  • How is the pc running?

Thanks for getting back to us.

The Hitman pro is still highlighting RDPENCDD.sys as malware and Norman is still coming up with the product manager pop up.

This is a home laptop.

Here are the logs requested:

Hi,

Please make sure Windows Defender is disabled, then download a new copy of ComboFix.exe Here and copy/paste it onto the desktop before doing the following.

Disable Windows Defender
  • Open Windows Defender and click Tools
  • Click General settings then scroll down to Real time protection options.
  • Uncheck Turn on real time protection (recommended)
  • Click save, then close Windows Defender.
  • Finally restart your system for any changes to take effect.
  • Once your system is clean please re-enable it.

-----------------------------------

Run CFScript
  • Open Notepad (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad)
  • Copy/Paste the following text Inside the code box into Notepad:

    When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt. please post this log in your next reply.
    The tool may require a reboot - this is normal.
    **Note**
    When CF finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box--do not be alarmed. With the above script, ComboFix will capture files to submit for analysis.
    • Ensure you are connected to the internet and click OK on the message box.
    Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
    A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may cause to your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
    ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper
