You did a great job for me, helping to rid my PC of malware. You actually gave me the all clear on Christmas day 2009! A fantastic Christmas present for me!

Since then my PC has run very well, with the task manager showing very little CPU activity in the background when using programs, even with multiple Firefox windows open. I don't remember ever having seen the machine so fast and unstressed.

Well, over the last two weeks it has become very different!

This is the background CPU use with two Outlook emails open, one Word document and 16 Firefox tabs open. At this point I haven't done any operation on the PC for 5 minutes and the CPU has settled down to this level.

Then I put in the memory card of the camera and view the image above. CPU goes wild for a while:

Then I opened GIMP image editing program to prepare the images for the web. I just opened the program, nothing more:

When I was actually editing the images the CPU was on 100% almost all the time and the PC had slowed so much as to be almost unuseable.

In other cases the PC told me that there wasn’t enough ‘resources’ to complete an action (when printing an image) and mostly it seems to be the system idle process which is running to the max, with other processes showing 1-5% of the processor use.

WinPatrol has shown no change to any of my core programs or files and Superantispyeare Professional hasn't flagged up anything, nor have scans by malwarebytes and superantispyware.

Please will you help diagnose and fix this problem?

Sorry for the delay in answering your request.
We have had more logs than we could handle in a timely manner.
If you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, please proceed as follows:

Let's do a trial here. There have been many incidents about X10 suddenly causing paralysis.
This will check to see if it or the ARCSoft Deamon are involved. If so, there are remedies.

Stop, Disable A Service
Go to Start, Run OR Start, Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt and type Services.msc and click OK.
Scroll down and find the service.

x10nets

Click once on the service to highlight it.
Right-Click on the service. Click on Properties
Select the General tab.
Next to Service Status, click Stop.
Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side of the Start-up Type box.
From the drop-down menu, click on Disabled
Click Apply , then OK

ACDaemon

Click once on the service to highlight it.
Right-Click on the service. Click on Properties

Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side of the Start-up Type box.
From the drop-down menu, click on Disabled
Click Apply , then OK

REBOOT(RESTART) Your Machine

Let me know if the extreme slowdown is still in evidence.

Retrieve the List of Installed programs Using HJT
Open HijackThis, click Open The Misc Tools Section. Then scroll down the list if you need to, click Open Uninstall Manager and Save List...
The List of installed programs will automatically be saved as uninstall_list.txt in your HiJackThis folder.
In addition, the list opens in Notepad so you can also save as another name in another location if you wish.
Please paste the contents into your next reply.

So we are looking for your take on whether these two services are related to the slowdown, and the content of the Installed programs list.
