Google Hijacked

Unread postby Mike H » March 24th, 2010, 7:22 pm

Hi,

Whenever I use google it sends me off to another random site, usually another search engine. The same thing happened to me a couple of months ago, and I managed to cure it by running TDSSKiller. I tried to use it again, but it didn't have any effect this time.
Any help will be appreciated.
Cheers, Mike.

Mike H,
NOTE: Since you have Vista, you may need to right-click any of the programs and choose "Rune as administrator" to get proper results.
-----------------------------------------------
Please Note Our Policy on the Use of P2P (Person to Person / Peer to Peer) file sharing programs
It is posted here: http://malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=33112
As a condition of receiving our help, I have included the P2P program Limewire in the removal instructions below, so we are not wasting our time. (Look no further to determine why your computer is infected.)
-----------------------------------------------------------
Disable Windows Defender
Go to Start > Programs > Windows Defender.
Click on the Tools menu, click General Settings, Scroll down to Real-Time Protection Options section and Deactivate the Real-Time Protection system.

Then, in the toolbar across the top there is a little downpointing arrow next to the question mark icon.
Click on that, get a drop down list. One of the options is to exit Windows Defender.
Click on that, and there will be a pop up asking if you are sure you want to exit. Click Yes/OK.
------------------------------------------------
Remove Programs Using Control Panel(Vista)
From Start, Control Panel, click on Uninstall a program under the Programs heading.
Right click each Entry, as follows, one by one, if it exists, choose Uninstall/Change, and give permission to Continue:

LimeWire 5.4.6
Java(TM) 6 Update 15
Java(TM) 6 Update 7
Ad-Aware
Spybot - Search & Destroy

If The Spybot Uninstaller asks whether you want to remove all settings, answer YES.
Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into Keeping the program.
You can re-install Spybot and Ad-Aware after we are done. We will update Java later.
---------------------------------------------
Run CKScanner
Download CKScanner from HERE
Important - Save it to your desktop.
Right-Click CKScanner.exe, choose Run as administrator and click Search For Files.
After a couple minutes or less, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File.
A message box will verify the file saved.
Double-click the CKFiles.txt icon on your desktop, give permission if asked, and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.
-----------------------------------------------
Run the RSIT Scanner
Please download the scanner from here and save it to your desktop. The icon will be named RSIT.exe
Right click on RSIT.exe and select Run As Administrator to run it. If Windows UAC prompts you, please allow it.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open
log.txt <- this one will be maximized
info.txt <- this one will be minimized
( Default location for both files is C:\rsit\ )
Copy/Paste the contents of both log.txt and info.txt into your next post please. Use two posts if you prefer.

So, if you choose to continue, we are looking for the file from CKScanner, and the two text files from RSIT.
You can use separate posts, if it's more convenient.

Mike H,

It is this forum's policy to decline help to those who are either using illegal copies of software and/or are attempting to circumvent the software's restrictions in order to use said software without lawfully purchasing the product, in violation of the EULA (End User License Agreement).
To do otherwise would put us in the position of aiding and abetting an unlawful act.
The forum's policy on invalid copies of Windows or Other Software is here : http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=550

As the information you have posted indicates that your system falls into this category, we are unable to offer assistance until it can be conclusively demonstrated that this situation has been rectified.
