Certain web pages not loading

Unread postby bazman » March 19th, 2010, 6:05 pm

Hello, I've developed a problem where certain web pages stop loading about half way through. It includes online banking, microsoft.com, and other sites, regardless of whether they are in the Favourites folder or not. I have the same issue whether I'm running Internet Explorer 8.0 or Mozilla 4.6. I'm using a DELL Dimension 5100 and have never re-loaded Windows. I've tried some obvious things like running REGEDIT and WINSOCK repair tools, cleaning down temp files, deleting cookies, disabling firewalls, etc. Following are the HijackThis log files and Uninstall list. Any help would be very appreciated.

Hello and Welcome to Malware Removal Forums.

Hello xixo_12,
Thanks for offering assistance. Followed your steps in sequence. The CKscanner returned the following information...

CKScanner - Additional Security Risks - These are not necessarily bad
c:\documents and settings\barry fitzgibbon\application data\sun\java\deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\file\cracked.gif-7eaf54c6-37f579df.idx
scanner sequence 3.NA.11
----- EOF -----

Unfortunately, there has been no improvement with web site access. By the way, when I ping these unresponsive sites using ipconfig, they time out. My ISP says there's no problem at their end.

Cheers,
bazman

Hi,
Let's proceed.

First,
RSIT by random/random.
Please download from HERE and save to the desktop.
  • Double-click on RSIT.exe to run the tool.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it finishes, two logs will open.
    • log.txt will be opened maximized
    • info.txt will be opened minimized
  • Please post the contents of both logs in your next post.
***You can find manually the log at C:\rsit

Next,
GMER.
Please download from HERE and save to the desktop.
  • Unzip/extract the file to its own folder.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
  • Double-click on Gmer.exe to start the program.
  • Allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a scan, click NO.
  • Click on >>> symbol and choose on the Rootkit tab.
  • Look at the right hand side (under Files) and uncheck all drives with the exception of your C drive.
  • Make sure all other boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for "Show All".
  • Click on the Scan and wait for the scan to finish.
Note: Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while this scan completes. Also do not use your computer during the scan.
  • When completed, click on the Copy button and right-click on your Desktop, choose "New" > Text document. Once the file is created, open it and right-click again and choose Paste or Ctrl+V. Save the file as gmer.txt and copy the information in your next reply.
  • Note: If you have any problems, try running GMER in SAFE MODE"
Important! Please do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan..

Next,
Checklist.
Please post.
  • Content of log.txt and info.txt (Find both in c:\rsit)
  • Content of GMER.txt

Re: Certain web pages not loading

Unread postby xixo_12 » March 26th, 2010, 6:30 pm

Hi,
Try this.

First,
Boot to Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu will appear. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a keyboard error message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe Mode.
  • Login on your usual account.

Next,
Please run GMER again.

Next,
CKScanner.
Please download from HERE and save to the desktop.
Note: If you are using Vista, right click and choose Run as Administrator.
  • Double click on CKScanner.exe to run it and click Search For Files.
  • After a very short time, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File.
  • A message box will verify the file saved.
  • Double-click the CKFiles.txt icon on your desktop and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.

Next,
Checklist.
Please post.
  • Content of GMER.txt
  • Content of CKFiles.txt

Hello,
GMER will not load, even in Safe mode. Output from CKscanner seems to be the same...

CKScanner - Additional Security Risks - These are not necessarily bad
c:\documents and settings\barry fitzgibbon\application data\sun\java\deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\file\cracked.gif-7eaf54c6-37f579df.idx

Hi,
Let's try with the different approach and please let me know, if you have difficulty.

First,
ERUNT by Lars Hederer
Download ERUNT and save to the desktop.
  • Double click on erunt-setup.exe to install the program.
  • Follow the prompts > uncheck Create NTREGOPT desktop icon at the Additional Tasks screen.
  • Click No when you are prompted about creating an ERUNT entry in the startup folder.
  • Next screen, uncheck Show documentation and check Launch ERUNT.
  • If ERUNT doesnt start by itself, launch it from the desktop shortcut.
  • At the configuration screen, make sure all 3 checkboxes are checked
  • Click Ok to run the backup process

Note:

Hi,
Let's try this scan.
Again, please let me know the update.

First,
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware here and save to the desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to:
    Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    Image
  • Refer to above image and then click Remove Selected to proceed.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the log back into your next reply
Note:
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
  • Or via the Logs tab when Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is started.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Next,
Reset FireFox
  • Copy the following code :
    firefox.exe -safe-mode
  • Click on Start > Run..., right click on the box and choose paste.
  • In the open window, select Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults.
  • Click on Make Changes and Restart.
  • After FireFox restarts click on Check for Updates...

Next,
Reset IE8
  • Please download Microsoft FixIt and save to the desktop.
  • Double click on MicrosoftFixit50195.exe select I Agree and click on Next.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts.
  • You may delete MicrosoftFixit50195.exe when finished and or keep it if any problems in the future with IE8.
  • Next time IE8 is launched you will be prompted to reapply settings again, this is normal.
  • Note: Any add-ons will require to be reapplied after the above reset.

Next,
Checklist.
Please post.

Hi,
Malwarebytes scan is still running after 24 hours. Reckon I'm nearing half way thru my 250GB hard drive. Please stay tuned.
